Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    I went to give my rabbits food just a few minutes ago and I noticed Lilly laying funny.  She was dead!  I don't know what happened!  She was not showing any kinds of symptoms, eating and drinking fine.  The only thing I see is that her bedding is thrown around.  I have no idea why she died!  I just hope she wasn't in pain.

       Colleen I'm so sorry; losing a beloved pet is always difficult but to lose one unexpectedly adds shock to the pain. I hope you're able to determine what happened; I know nothing about rabbits so I can't offer any ideas.

    The only thing I can think of is that she was somehow sick, but hiding the symptoms.  Small animals are great at hiding the symptoms until it is too late.  I could have a necropsy done, but I don' t think I really want to know.  I would rather her just rest in peace.

    Colleen, So sorry for your loss. How old was Lilly? I had a rabbit who lived for 12years. I think their life expectancy is only 6 - 8 yrs. Hope Lily finds Thump at the rainbow bridge where they can hop together.

    She was only just over a year old.  Just a baby.

    It hurts to lose a pet.

    I'm so sorry to hear of your loss!  I have bunnies too and know how heartbreaking it is to lose them. They do hide their symptoms often until it is too late and they seem to be prone to tumors.  Lilly will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge, I'm sure, and there are bunnies there to keep her company until you get there.

    Don't worry, whatever happened to her was not your fault if she was hiding it.  She is sitting at the rainbow bridge.
