Baby Girl

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Baby Girl

Today we said goodbye to our girl. Almost 12 full years of fun and love. The decision was hard but lord decided that today was her day to return. Today is my parents 43rd wedding anniversary, maybe it was fate.

Last week we started having issues with loose and runny stool, after a trip to the vets on Sunday we knew we were facing some pretty rough odds. They discovered that her liver and or her spleen were enlarged and or had a mass. This morning for the first time in 11 years my dog refused food, and her belly was starting to swell.

Since sunday she had gained almost 5 lbs, she was basically in the words of the vet, bleeding to death. There was nothing they could do, there was a mass on her spleen and also what looked like some cancer. Her stomach area was completly filled with blood. As much as it hurt then and still does we decided there was nothing else we could do.

She will be missed by a whole lot of people and kids, but I know she is off and playing in the sun.

Aww, I'm so sorry you lost your girl, but she is at peace now, and comfortable once again.  Although it has not progressed so far, we are facing the same issues with Winnie.

I am very sorry to hear that. Bless you for having the strength and courage to end her suffering. I know it all hurts right now but she is running free.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.  Nothing I can say will ease your pain.  Maybe you would like to visit the thread about the Rainbow Bridge Welcoming Committee.  You'll see that your baby girl is not alone & will be met by some of the best dogs we have known.

I'm so sorry about your loss of your Baby Girl.  Our friends just had to help their Springer Spaniel to the Bridge for the same diagnosis.  It came upon him suddenly, and they had to make the same decision.  Having lost our dear boy in January after a rapid decline in health, I know the pain in your heart.  The tears seem endless for a while, but in time you'll smile when talking about her.  Until then, I wish you and your family peace during this very sad time.

Thank you all. Yesturday my 13 year old niece capped our day with some kid logic wisdom, while it made me cry it also made me laugh.

She said..."Auntie Dawn, it's ok. Just think she is free to run all over heaven, in fact now I know why it was snowing today, she must have got God's garden hose out and turned it on to play with the water." She then added a confession of the time when Babe jumped in the bathtub with her, she asked her to come in, but she could never tell us cause it was a secret only she and Babe knew about. She then went on to comfort me, and here I was worried about her! She is such a great kid.

I lost a Dobe in the 1980's the very same way.  I came home one day and her abdomen was all swelled up.  She lasted a week before I had to take her back to the vet to be PTS.  I feel for you, especially now after I just lost my heart dog.  Twenty minutes ago, or twenty years ago, it never gets any easier to let a good dog go.  Sometimes, I think that's why the Creator gives us a bit of "kid logic" to help us cope...
