Okie

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Okie

Okie, it has been a year since you left us, though it only seems like yesterday.  We miss you so much.  Are you watching us?  You know Natchez and Lillee have come to live with us since you left but they can never take your place.  I hope you know that the love and care we are giving them is with you in mind. Oh how I wish you would give me one of your drooly kisses again.  I still call Natchez by your name from thime to time and I know when that occurs it is because you will always be my Okie and in my heart forever.  I hope you are happy and healthy now.  I miss you and I love you so much.  I will give Nat and Lil a special treat for you tonight.
    Love,
    Mama

They never completely leave us, do they?  Beautiful sentiment.  No matter how many we do have, we never can replace the ones who had to go to the bridge before us.
