For Parker

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    For Parker

    God, I Believe
    in Memory of my Parker
    God...I face you everyday,
I'm humbled by your promise and display of
All of the things that you offer today.
I get down on my knees and pray
That, you God, will guide my way.
You've taken my partner home to be with you,
I miss him, I know you feel my pain,
But I feel your love and my heavy heart.
I pray that you will not keep us apart.
    I believe in Angels.

I wrote this for my beloved pet who was both friend and teacher for 17 years. He passed away where he usually lay...at my feet. He rests, now,  in the garden underneath a majestic oak tree with an eternal light that shall never dim...as his spirit remains alive and with me.

Laurie, your poem and sentiments are lovely.  We understand the depth of your loss here, so I'm glad you've found us.

As I told my friend, who's dog also recently passed peacefully at the foot of his bed, he was just where a dog would want to be - where he was loved and happy and safe.

Wishing you comfort in your memories and peace for Parker.

Run free at the Bridge, Parker.  You will be missed.

What a lovely poem.  So often, poems (as well as songs and other pieces) are written as an outlet for grief, or as tributes to our lost loved ones.  It's a very beautiful way to remember your beloved Parker.  Thank you for sharing it here.

I'd also like to add that you were blessed to share your life with Parker for so many years, and to have him leave this physical world in the safest, most comfortable and peaceful place.  We prayed our dog's death would be in a similar manner, but we had to make an awful decision to help him cross, and he was in a sterile medical environment.  There must be much relief to know Parker wasn't faced with that.

I know you have a wonderful picture in your mind of Parker running free, as in his youth, across the beautiful grassland at the Bridge.  I believe that  he is in a wonderful spirit world where nothing ever goes wrong. <<>> It's hard to be left behind, but we'll catch up to our angel dogs one day.

Thank you so much.. Parker was the only pet I lost in this manner...so I do understand the hardhip that comes with a 'sterile' environment. It was hard but 'seemed right' that he passed the way he did. He was ailing and could barely lift his head, let alone stand up. I placed his beloved blanket over him for warmth and whispered in his ear...'if you need to go...then you are free to go. I love you.' Go and be at peace.' Within minutes he was gone. I placed him in a secure box with many of his toys and had him buried in the garden. (He used to love it there...he would chase the buterflies). Over the site sits an angel statue holding a light that shines every night. It's solar powered but shines even on cloudly days.

I'm thanlful for so many things that he gaved me. His friendship, his tolerance, his devotion, his unconditional love.

    Thanks again [sm=angel.gif]
