I Lost a Part of My Heart a Year Ago

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

Annie, so many of us here understand what you wrote (and what you wrote was lovely -- you found perfect words!).  Yes, the passage of time makes one's emotions settle a bit (we don't necessarily cry every single day or at the drop of a hat, like we did when the loss was really fresh).  But, in my experience, the sadness never goes away -- it's just under the surface, and even if we do smile when we think of our beloved dogs, we can still miss them terribly and feel pain about their absence.  We're coming up on the 5th anniversary of our dog's passing, and just reading your post and remembering what I went through is enough for me to get very sad.  You're not alone in your feelings . . . take care, and (((hugs))).

I can't believe it's been a year, it feels so recent.  I'm thinking about you Annie, and the 5-pack sends you big double-coated hugs.

I can read this thread without losing it completely at last.  So many emotions have been flooding me since Friday.  There are 2 I can easily put a name to.  The first is gratitude.  That gratitude is to be a member of a community of like minded dog dorks who totally understand that when a pet dies you don't just lose an animal you lose a friend.  Thank you for understanding & lending a shoulder to me when I needed it most.

The second word is joy.  Joy for the short amout of time we had together & the memories we made together.  One such memory is her distrust of inanimate objects.  There were 2 instances of her showing her mistrust & I didn't witness either :(.  One was when she was at the groomer & she decided that the vacuum was trouble.  Kelly, the groomer, was in tears when I picked her up.  Maghee had been barking at the vacuum & giving it the hairy eye.  She was convinced that it was evil.  It was just sitting there doing no one any harm. She just had to make sure it knew that she was in charge & wasn't taking any of it's shenannigans.

Edited to babble a little more.

I didn't see the initial post for which I apologize.

And of course you know who sends his special obsessive kisses to you to mend your heart and clear your tears
