Sam

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Sam

DH's parents called to say they put down Sam, the cocker spaniel.  He was about 14 years old.  He's had a heart murmur his entire life.  When I met DH six years ago, Sam was also getting chronic yeast infections in his ears and started to develop arthritis in his knees.  Recently, his heart problems got worse.  Last week he was coughing because of fluid in his lungs.  The vet prescribed some meds but they were not helping so Sammy was sent to the Bridge today.  DH's parents are bawling (they've been bawling and tearing up since last week when they first realized it was time).  They aren't really "dog people" and didn't do a lot of things right as far as training, socialization, diet, etc but they sure loved their dog.

Aww, what a darling picture.  I bet they're glad to have it, to reflect on such a sweet little face.

I'm sorry for your in-laws' grief.  Rest easy, Sam.

Run free, Sam.  Tell your in laws (if they won't think we are all crazy) that there are strangers sending them our support and comfort in their loss.  What an adorable face and a beautiful picture.

Please pass on my condolences to your in-laws.  Sam looked like he was a sweetheart.  Run fast & free, Sam!

You just described much of America - just well meaning people who love their dogs:-)  And, really, what's better than being a well loved dog?

Run free, little Sam - you were a cutie and I bet all the little Cocker girls at the Bridge are just begging to run in the meadow with you.

Run free sweet Sam!  I will have your inlaws in my thoughts today, tell them we all understand the loss they are suffering!

What a cutie. It's nice to hear that he lived so long with the heart murmur. That gives me hope for my ex-foster dog, Scarlet.

    Run free Sam!

Yep I think he was born with it.  He had heart failure towards the end but I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the murmur.
