I am looking for a foundation bitch, whelped Spring of 09

If you want a foundation think about buying an older, proven girl. Nothing hurts like spending all the time finishing and breeding only to find she's a terrible Mom or produces XYZ or needs c sections or just flat won't take. Just a little thing I've learned in my travels Wink

I'll open up my prong collar and she can come sit next to me on it!

I would actually LOVE to do that.  It's a great suggestion.

Insta-dog LOL  But Nik would NEVER accept that.  She's always been fearful of bigger dogs, but OK with little dogs that get big. It's gotten worse since she was attacked by those labs.  I don't think she'd accept a bigger dog into the house. Particularly a bitch. My breeder has her nose to the ground, she's got a line she thinks would be best for Logan in her sight, and they've agreed to give me pick bitch. But, I need to iron out details as to making sure she's got a personality that clicks for us as well.

But, i think you're right.  Getting a proven bitch is a much better idea... I just don't think I can get away with it.

    LOL

OH! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SAY THAT!  hahahahaha

I didn't have to, she realized I am the alpha dog and gave in with a submissive pose...ROFL!!!

    Yes, she did.

But, I still think it'd be more fun if you told her to sit on a prong collar.

    Click and then reward LOL

ahh see that is where you have to be prepared.

Dogs sometimes don't get along...and you may come across that in a dog of your own breeding sometime. Preparations be it kennels or crates...will be in the future. You can't always guarantee that what comes back will be amenable to your existing pack...esp once you have bred a litter. If that now 2y/o needs to come home...you have to be ready to take him or her...regardless of how your current dogs may feel about it.

It's good you are thinking of your existing dogs...very good...but it is always best to consider that when you get into breeding you potentially will have to house more than you are comfortable with, or a different type/personality than you are comfortable with, due to emergencies or etc...so it always good to have the set up ahead of time Wink

That's excellent advice.  My dream set up is in my head :)  I can see it so clearly, it's loverly :D  Thankfully i'm 3-5 yrs out for my first litter (IF everything works out perfectly, even.)  So it gives me time to get it ready.  Nik will have tiny dog dogs so she can go where she wants and leave the big dogs in her dust :)  Then I'll have the outdoor runs that have dog doors into the house for the big dogs.  Someday.... it's gonna be SO awesome lol

You're right, of course, God forbid I get a puppy returned.  I will take it (without doubt) but I want to be set up so we can have success.  Great point and one I'll take to heart. I love learning about this.  Any advice is appreciated guys!

My set up here is FAR from my dream LOL. But I have a vision too like you do. I would love some runs and a piece of land to put them on...some securely fenced exercise yards...heating and cooling...grooming room with hot/cold water....oy!

But i do have a decent dog yard right now, and an Old indestructible Priefert kennel that could hold a tiger...so I make do...even when they come back as they did yesterday with Susie girl. She's so cute....she's outside peeing over every spot of Buckwheats she can find LOL.
