Are members allowed to edit AFTER me?

Are members allowed to edit AFTER me?

On the very bottom of page 3 of the Akita thread in Behavior, I edited espencers post.  Went back this morning to read the thread and I see that HE has deleted my CONTENT DELETED and instead put in .:.  Now that I think of it, there are several posts that I edited that seem to have those instead of my comments.

This is allowed??  Some members really don't want to be red inked and are careful to not step over the line into red inkdom.  So now it seems that there is an "easy fix" to get rid of said red ink?  Why bother then?

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, a member can edit their own post any time.  I believe on the old forum there was a "rule" saying that members were NOT allowed to edit their own posts in order to get rid of any red ink.

Espencer contributes nothing to this forum except strife, and I don't personally think he should still be here.

ETA:  I'd be sorely tempted to go and re-edit his posts and put *content removed* back in....and not just for him, but for anyone who edits out red ink they get...otherwise there's no point in us doing it in the first place.

    • Gold Top Dog

So, he can post something outrageous that inspires me to let the red ink flow AND issue a warning, then go back and DELETE all my red ink??  Make it look like he just changed his mind about his post?  What the heck happened to the red ink having any sort of impact or acting as an "eh eh" if they can just go back and take it out?

And then when I post that I've been busy with the red ink I look like an idiot when there isn't any!

I seriously always tried to be careful of what I posted because I didn't want the PUBLIC embarrasement of being red inked.  Not that I always suceeded but one of my motivating factors in not calling that Betsy Perkins person every name in the book was the dread of being publicly humiliated for sinking to her level.  And believe me, s/he deserved every nasty word I could have thought of and then some.

Sorry, but I think that when a member has been edited it should stand.  If nothing else it shows OTHERS that mods are here and actively keeping an eye on things.  This kind of sucks.

    • Gold Top Dog

If you want me to go in and replace the red ink in every one of his posts, I will.

And I agree with you...if the red ink means nothing, what's the point?

    • Gold Top Dog

I've forwarded this on to Jaime.  Where the heck is Jill???  I know that Jaime was traveling, but we have NO admins around?

    • Gold Top Dog

    I'll send her an email.

    • Gold Top Dog

Thanks Kate, but no.  I could do that myself, but he'd just go back and take it out again and then it becomes a pi$$ing contest.

On the one hand, the purpose of editing is to remove the offending content and its gone, so........

But, on the other hand going back and removing red ink is kind of a F you at the authority that mods are supposed to represent.  And especially with him it's almost as if he is saying that we will have no control over his posting or his behavior on the forum.  Lostcoyote has done the the same thing but I didn't realize what the .:. was all about.

    • Gold Top Dog

That's exactly what him editing the red ink is saying.

I don't think everyone has to like us, but they should to some degree respect the authority of mods/admins.

Espencer is the only regular member on this forum that I believe should take a permanent vacation.  I have had ENOUGH of his "neener neener neener, you can't touch me no matter what I do" behavior.

    • Gold Top Dog

And I agree about the pissing contest....but I do vote for deleting his posts altogether.  As of right now, they are not contributing to the thread or even saying anything...they will be preserved in the "deleted posts" forum...and I just think now that it should appear as though he has not contributed to the thread at all.

    • Gold Top Dog

Thank you Kate.  I'm glad that I'm not just over reacting to this situation.

Espencer is not the only one I'd like to see either leave or behave, but that's a whole 'nudder topic!

He is very close minded and seems to hero worship CM.  Now maybe shared ethnicticity has something to do with that.  But honestly, the man has a teeny tiny little dog and acts like he absolutely knows how to deal with an akita??  Blows an entire thread off course because he HAS to be right???

He thinks I have a problem with him because he and I exchanged some heated PMs several months ago (before I became a mod) over a thread concerning a training issue.

Contrary to what he thinks, I didn't have a problem with him until just before we switched software...in the space of about 48 hours he posted to a thread about veganism and vegetarianism with no productive comment, but a picture of a big thick steak on a grill and "you mean you guys don't want one of these?"....and then shortly afterwards said in another thread that if he were stuck behind a woman driver he'd assume she was gay (although he tried to hide that that is what he was saying).  After THAT, I *do* have a problem with him....especially since the comment was made in a thread of Xeph's, and Xeph's mom IS gay.

    • Gold Top Dog

I don't recall having personal conversations with him, and I didn't see that stuff, but it's in pretty poor taste.  We've gone head to head a few times on training issues in the forum, but I started avoiding the CM section both before and after I had to mod it because I really didn't like feeling like fresh meat in a pack of hungry wolves.

I try to make allowances for the fact that he is from an entirely differently culture, but, the allowances can only go just so far.

    • Gold Top Dog

NO he cannot...meaning he is able to but doing so constitutes disrespecting a Mod and IMO that should be addressed by Admin. I agree...put your content edited remark back in.

    ETA: No Kate's right...delete it.

    • Gold Top Dog

Ya think?  Then what happens should he go back again?  Until we know that we've got an admin in the house, should I wait or do it now?

    • Gold Top Dog

hehehe!  That felt GOOD!!  Like passing a good toot that you've been holding in for tooooo long!

Now, do I send him a PM and let him know that disrespecting a mods edit is going to get him in deep doo doo?  Or can I wait and let Jaime do that?
