Questions About New TOS? Post Here.

When links are allowed in sigs, there is an issue with links that flat out shouldn't be there, such as our friendly neighborhood puppymill spammers  Links are still allowed without the text of your post and in your profile.  Why on earth is this such an issue?

Christine, unless I totally misunderstood, OT posts will be dealt with by a general mod post requesting that the posters return TO topic.  The best for instance  I can think of is when I felt that the posters were totally OT, asked them to post on topic and got slapped silly that I was full of spit and that they WERE on topic.  Now, the rules are really no different on this, other than that for ME I am now instructed to NOT turn the other check because it's me getting slapped.  If I get slapped, now I am SUPPOSED to slap back, that being in the form of edits and a warning.  And, honestly, I've always been supposed to, but that felt funny to me.  So NOW, it's very clear to everyone, members and mods alike, that stuff like the for instance isn't gonna cut it.  This SHOULD mean that if a mod pops in and asks that a thread return to topic and no one risks being red inked or warned.

i do think the occasional "thumbs up" or "lol"'s add to a msg boards candor and camaraderie.

Me too.  And I'm just going to assume that whatever smileys are available to us on the forum are OK to use ... or we wouldn't have them.

Yes.. I agree Joyce.. ALL the ones that we have are available for our use, or they would have already likely been removed. [:)]

I just want to say "Life is to short to argue about little things". This site is great, but there's more to life than sitting at a computer, getting all worked up.Take a lesson from our beloved animals and give all the love you can and don't hold a grudge. We all have our jobs to do and we do the best we can. That's all I have to say to all you dog lovers.

I've noticed some black ink edits today. Is there a difference in red ink and black ink edits?

I don't see where anyone here has ever done that.  (I don't recall ever getting any of my paychecks from dog.com either, but if that's a mistake.....[:D]).  I don't understand the point of the rule if no one has ever said that they represent dog.com.

The other day a member referred to another member as the Forum's [insert breed] Expert.  I am not sure who broke the rule, the one that annointed or the one being annointed.

Well, I want to publicly state that I am not idog's Aussie expert, nor am I idog's training & behavior expert, nor do I know anything about anything, so don't ask me a darn thing, and don't listen to anything I say.  And, whatever you do, just remember, even if you say I'm like Glenda, just an old broad with some experience, I'm gonna deny it and take the Fifth. (anyone else want to substitute Gin for Amendment?)

I might be wrong, but I think the black ink edits are when the poster goes back and edits his/her own post for whatever reason.

I'll join you in that one, Anne.  You bring the tonic and I'll bring a big bag of limes. [:D]

If your 'bluntness' is misunderstood and/or not intended to offend you certainly have the chance to post an apology and an explaination.

    **Content Removed**

If one wants to post an explanation thats up to them, but i sure am not going to apologize to someone if they happen to take offence to something i write, something i have not written intentionally to upset anyone. You just have to "look" at some members the wrong way and they take offense or get hurt feelings or whatever,i wont tip toe around the place incase someone with a thin skin happens to read my post.Unless i out an out target that member and use their name they have NO right to guess/summise if my post is about them or not.
I am not one to beat around the bush,if i have a problem with anyone i will come right out and say it,this way no one gets confused...

What one person see's as rude and/or insulting, the next person wont. This is something that we all will never, ever, ever agree on.

For once, I agree with you Edie.  Which is why overmoderation leads to boring forums, idea suppression, and mass exodus of the core membership to other places where more freedom of expression is allowed.  But, when you are a big board, you can always attract more members.  So what if they are byb's, puppy millers, and folks who think it's fine to tie their dogs to trees all day?  That's what you'll get if you drive the knowledgeable members out.  **Content Removed**

My DH always tells me that I have a hard time 'seeing the BIG picture' so Anne, I'll just ask you straight out - What exactly in the TOS do you feel suppresses your ideas or limits your freedom of expression?
    Which rule is it?

Rule 1: One login per member?
Rule 2: Vulgarities will not be tolerated
Rule 3: Respect your fellow members? Keep on topic?
Rule 4: Address forum problems privately?
Rule 5: Keep personal conversations private?
    Rule 6: No Double Posting?
Rule 7: No Selling or solicitation?
Rule 8: No Forum use for personal gain? No links in sigs?
    Additionally: No appointed in-house experts?

EDITED To Remove OFF TOPIC opinion. Thanks for the reminder DPU.
