ADMIN: all read, stardog PM'd me

wanting BorderCollieMom's link in her profile removed. I think links are allowed in profiles so?? Stardog said it's a puppymill and should be removed because it's awful...

Thoughts? Many here have dogs from less than ideal sources...do we start weeding out puppymill links in profiles as well? do we need to define puppymill as a forum to do that?

Also I PM'ed BCM about her post AFTER the mod directive...see the below. There is something going on here and I am beginning to wonder if SD is involved.

    Hello there,

I understand you want to defend yourself...but a moderator (me) asked that OT posts NOT be further added to the thread. Your post is off topic. I would appreciate if you could move what you posted to a new thread in Breeds...if you would like to continue to discuss your breeder. Simply blank out/edit your post in the other thread after copying it to the new one. If I need to do the removal it wil count as an edit...so I wanted to give you the opportunity.

If it is not on the original topic...it needs to be discussed in a new thread. Otherwise someone else responds to you and then someone else responds to them and on and on we go. Not a problem...in a dedicated thread in the right area of the forum.

I hope you understand...I am trying to make sure people remain civil and do not feel attacked. I think your comments about your breeder are genuine and need to be heard....I just also think that moderator requests/warnings need to be heeded.

    Thank you,

    Gina H.

    Moderator.

Oye.  This is truly a toughie!

     1. If people get there via dog.com  (even a private profile) then is there a liability issue?  That said, people should be able to have a website via their profile (as long as it's not offensive/G-Rated.)

     2.  How on earth do we police 30000+ profiles?!

     3.  Ugh.

Not sure. I'm definitely not a fan of a puppy mill using dog.com, for sure!

BCM is replying to me now...*sigh* I hope she is going to be reasonable.

I'd say posting website's to private breeder websites should not be allowed.  There is huge liability issues here.  .... in their profile is 1 thing (your own private site) but, to post the puppymill's site on the page with people calling it a puppymill...... well, that could be very problematic.

I missunderstood, I thought the site was in the profile.

This, IMO should not be allowed, too much liability.

might be...but I just checked the TOS here and it's pretty ironclad...I don't think the company could suffer anything but bad rep..which is damaging all the same. But from a legal standpoint...I think they're okay.

I emailed Jaime about this so I will be interested to see what she thinks. People post links to puppymills here IN THREAD...all the time tho...so we can all go look at talk about how bad it is...you know? What's the difference? That no longer allowed either?

People have a way of being able to trace where traffic to their site is coming from. ... so,  if they see they have a bunch of traffic coming from this thread, they can pop in, see they are being called a puppymill and...... even if dog.com is in the right, a lawsuit is expensive!  Even dealing with lawyers to get through a slander arbitration is expensive.

I'm interested in what Jaime says, too!

If this was my personal site I wouldn't want the liability.

    BCM's reply to me...

    "Gina,

I understand and did not start this, I just responed to a comment I received in an email notification by tncowgirl.  This surprised me also when I received it.  I have not posted on this site in a very long time, it seemed that when you asked a question, as innocent as it could be, some of the posters turned everything around and started to attack.  I actually had two friends also do the same thing.  We are responsible dog owners who have some questions once and a while, this site became not a fun place to interact.

Once again, I did not start this and will not continue.  Not even sure how tncowgirl got such an old thread to begin with??"

I told her someone might've googled the breeder's site or simply stalked her here from another forum. Both happen fairly frequently. I also told her I know she did not start it but the sad fact is she is the only one who posted AFTER a mod warning as of now...

IMO the entire string of posts should be edited...they can start a new thread if they still want to discuss it.

I took a look at the website...there are definately a LOT of litters that have been bred in MHO... There could be a lot of truth to the alligations posted.

     I suggest that

1-remove all links in the posts..it draws hits from the search engines

2- request she remove the link from her profile..it is not her link and should not be used to draw advertising

We don't really know her relationship to this breeder, she could be a relative for all we know. Any reasonable dog person would see there is too much breeding going on.

Rudeness no matter on what level or the cause is not to be tolerated.

Are we removing them from Becca's posts too? she posted a bunch on her thread in Breeds...are we asking her to do so or are we doing it...is this a strike or not? Are we addressing the orignal post that was OT and potential trollish?

And Admin would have to address the profile link...the one I saw wasn't active/clickable.

I feel like this member is getting a raw deal here personally. She made that post TWO YEARS AGO from what I see..someone with an AXE to grind dug it up and posted a completely off topic and IMO rude comment about her dogs.Yes I know it was directed at her breeder but we ALL know most here would take it as an attack on OUR DOGS...

Then she is reprimanded by me for defending her dogs and breeder...then Becca starts a whole post again...tearing at her breeder and airing stuff that may be public record...but could also be seen as inflammatory about someone not here to defend themselves...

I think we need to handle this carefully. This member is not a bad person...or someone with a rep...she already said she was no longer posting much because of the way members treated her here...IMO...we need to be careful.
