A new sticky?

I was reading the cocoa mulch thread and was thinking, maybe a sticky isn't a bad idea. But, I think it should be named "DANGEROUS TO DOGS" or something catchy and then have people list (via their posts) what is dangerous, and then we add them to the OP as they are added by members so they are all in one place, and people can scroll down and read more about it.

So in this case, the OP (which would be a mod/admin) would say:

Things that can be dangerous to dogs:

-Cocoa Mulch
-Sugarfree Gum
-Grapes
-etc

Then in the order below is them listed so they can get the full story.

Thoughts?? It'd be a bit of a babysitting project, but whoever gets the chance can update the list as it goes. I'm guessing it'd be buy at first, but eventually slow down.

sounds good - especially because these things come up over and over so it would be good to have it in one location easy to find

Personally I think a link sticky'd up top to the Animal Poison Control Site, would be a lot less work. If it's an open Sticky then people will be posting everything the read in their email like Swiffers kill your dogs and the thread will lose much of it's value. But I'm fine with whatever.

Good point! ... any solutions for idiots posting about swiffers or similar? We could ask people to vet their answers before posting them... and only add those from reputable sources. We will also need to write a line in it that we cannot be liable for any misinformation and to always check things out with a vet or Poison Control (and the link)??

This is sounding like a lot of work though... but, it if it's helpful....?

I dunno Lani...I mean I just forsee a lot of back and forth like with Nutrition...."Grapes are poisonous"...."yeah well I fed my dogs grapes for years and they never had any issues"..."well MY vet said it was bad..." "well MINE said it was fine in moderation.."...

I don't mind if you guys do it but I can't say I'll be keen on the extra work LOL. Esp since we seem to have so many folks that think EVERYTHING is bad for your dog LOL.

Well, if it's a "no go" it's a no go, no worries. I mean, I definitely don't wanna cause a lot of extra work!!

Hey I think the yes's outnumbered me LOL.

So I am fine with whatever is decided. I am not sure if threads, can be made "mod post only"? that'd be nice then members could send their info to any mod and we could just add it, even credit the member if they wish...but I don't know if that'd work? I guess Announcements are Mod/Admin only? They can be edited but not replied to...wonder if that'd work? Or I suppose we could always join posts already existing to a sticky but then the info would be in date order rather than perhaps a more useful alpha/subject order...

We could make it an Announcement yes, and then all of us can edit it but members would have to submit stuff to us to have it posted, that sounds like the best compromise to me.
