Can we discuss the Health forum?

An email from willowchow started this in my head...she wants an AIHA/IMHA dedicated subforum...we all know how I feel about that (overly specific subforums) LOL...but..

There are SEVEN subforums under Health.  So many that you need to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to even see the posts people put in there itself.  I spoke to Laurissa about this, just said I wanted to open the floor to you guys and see what you think.  TPTB have 1 request - that we work a home/natural remedies section in.

I'm in favour of doing away with the older dogs and puppies sections together, consolidating some of the others and putting them in more logical groupings, maybe something like this:

    General Health Discussions

    • Breeding, Spaying and Neutering
    • Injury Advice
    • Chronic and Genetic Conditions
    • Preventative Care, Medications & Home Remedies
    Thoughts?

Hmm...putting meds in with home remedies will start a war between calli and ottoluv LOL.

    Maybe...

Natural/Homepathic/Alternative Dog Care: that way there is no doubt, on what will be discussed and people like ottoluv who seem irked by that can just skip it?

Life Stages: Health problems or concerns specific to life stage? might replace old dogs and puppies?

Injuries & First Aid: BIG disclaimer...VET FIRST (this may need to go there in general)

Canine Reproduction/Contraception Concerns: this might encompass ALL...breeding and spay and neuter...various repro specific cancers or infections, etc.

Diseases and Conditons: just a general sort of forum for "what is this thing?" or "my dog has xyz what now?"

You are right, there are a lot of subforums. If they want a sticky for that issue willow requested I can see that..but a whole section? not so much.

    Looking forward to more discussion!

eta: upon restructuring does someon have to place each thread?? eek!

LOL that occurred to me after I'd posted.  I was sorta shifting things around but yeah, I think you're right on that front.  I'd LOVE to get it down to 4 but 5 would be OK.

More musings...I love the "Stages" idea..

    • Should I Go To The Vet?  (for general advice/"what is this thing?" We get a lot of those.)
    • Stages: Breeding, Puppies and Senior Care
    • Diseases, Conditions & Treatments
    • Homeopathic & Home Remedies
Then in the description, clearly state that anything ELSE is to go in the main forum?

No I can rename the forums and move the ones that don't fit LOL.

what are your thoughts on simply not having a breeding header? Just call it "Reproductive Concerns"? That sounds more open to spay/neuter, reproductive cancers, infections, etc? Not everyone with an intact dog and question about the peter or vajayjay is breeding...(some days that sounds like a lie) so they might bypass "breeding" and post in say...diseases conditions. Or is that what would be better?

Hey I have no feelings on "better" except fewer subforums LOL.  So yes I'm happy to drop the "breeding" altogether, though some people might assume "reproductive" to mean breeding too....hmmm...not doubting YOU, doubting my brain tonight LOL.

I think that looks pretty comprehensive.  Although despite Ottoluv and Callie I think it would be nice to have both alternative and traditional treatment in a single place - but i understand the division

Just a minor vent...I hadn't answered Lori's PM because I wanted to give her a specific answer "no we won't add the section but we are restructuring" kind of thing, and she PM'd me AGAIN 3 hours later to ask if I had an answer yet!

I wish I could walk, then I'd be able to go to the store and return my life since I'm apparently not allowed to have one.

Ugh, sorry for the bad mood ladies, my foot's killing me and I'm under doctor's orders to rest it almost completely for nearly 2 months.  I'm going to go eat something bad for me for lunch, and will check back when I have perked up from that.

OMG Kate I knew you had hurt your foot but I didn't realize to what extent!  I think you are fully deserving of a bad mood!  I hope that you get some relief from the pain quickly and that the doc's are off on their schedule and you are back up and running sooner rather than later!

I will give further thought to the subforum categories but will say that I have serious work to do for a presentation/competitive bid next Thursday so I don't have much time for anything these days.  So popping in and out is all I can promise.  This is a very significant project so I absolutely have to give it my full attention, I hope you all can understand

Neither did I until this morning.  Walking in London yesterday nearly had me in tears so I made an appointment for toda with my GP...that's the news I got.  Thanks, I'm hoping recovery is faster than she thinks, too.

    Of course!
