Taking Logan to the vet.

    Taking Logan to the vet.

So, between the dog that bit him Saturday, really near his eye... it looked like it was going to be OK, but I feel it's time for a vet visit. I think he ripped the nictating membrane, i can see that now that the swelling has gone down.  And the diarrhea that kept me up all night Sat and Sun nights (I figured Sat's was partly cause he got into the cat food.  But that cannot explain last nights and the continuation into this morning).  I didn't think it was worth an e-vet trip as he's still got his appetite, no vomiting and no loss of energy. Either one and I'd be going to the vet this am... but, you know at least it's nice he consolidated this into one trip for me.

Off we go,10am appt.  Wish us luck :(

In the meantime I'm going to go rearrange General, a bunch of misplaced threads.

I made a post that will hopefully remind folks to make sure they are posting stuff in the right place. I hope Logan is well and nothing serious is up!

Oh honey!  I swear if I ever get my hands on that woman...Angry

Good luck at the vet!  Kiss Lo for me.

I've just finished deciding what I'm going to wear, now I have to clean the kitchen so the pooch can spend the evening in there.  I'll try to catch you sometime later after Steve's passed out.

Thank you guys, i'm walking out the door now.  I'm trying not to be worried, but it's hard!

Thanks Gina, I saw your thread, that was awesome.  I was eyeballing Glenda's posts that was completely non-dog related in there, I hesitated moving it since it's been up since the 23rd.  What do you guys think?  Prayer Circle? NDR?  ... leave it alone?

Thanks Kate... I can't wait to hear how wonderful and romantic all was.  I'm really sooooo happy for you!! :o)  Have fun and pass on my cheer to Steve, please!

Moving it to NDR would seem best to me...the exposure is bigger than in TSC.

Thanks for handling it Gina.  I left before I saw your reply.. saw it on my phone, but I can't do anything on my phone, just read.

Just got home, OK, the eye is superficial, it didn't tear the nictating membrane, it just looked like it cause it was so inflamed.  She was impressed it didn't get his eyeball itself, she said "Boy that's about a near miss as you can get." The dog got him on his ... what I would call, his eyebrow and then right off the corner of his eye.  The bottom lid wasn't sticking on his eyeball like it should, she said it's cause it's inflamed and should heal well.  I'm *SO* relieved.

But the inflamed bowel situation is, she feels cochsidia or giardia.  The weather warmed up and he's began swimming.  She said it's actually quite rare for a raw fed dog to get these as their immune system is so adept at fighting off all those digestive diseases.  But, that the timing lined up and that the diarrheas gotten worse rather than better indicates it. So we should know tomorrow.  She said at that point she may prescribe something, but in the meantime, treat it as an upset stomach, fasting followed by bland food, no raw for probably 5-7 days.  So, the rice price increase turns out DOES effect me, lol!  So, I can't feed or exercise a 9.5 month old weimaraner puppy.  This could really suck!

Overall, I'm just so relieved his eye didn't require stitches I could cry.

Thanks guys for your help and support.  ... this dog is making me insane.  I didn't have nearly this trouble with Nik. She really was the perfect puppy.

I wouldn't be shocked if he picked up the tummy thing due to being stressed at the show. I know that was a way back but shows are stressful (not bad...just exciting) and the travel and copious exposure to other dogs can just make sure you bring home SOMETHING lol.

I hope it's not cocci or giardia as those can linger...healing vibes your way...

I missed where he got bit...got a link?

I didn't post about it.  Actually.. didn't feel like opening that can of worms. It's sad that even I (having been here for over 3 years!) feel that way... but, with all the "Oh, poor Logan's!" would come "You shouldn't have done X Y & Z."  So, I just didn't do it.

I wrote this email to his breeder which explains it (sent it last night):

Well, we had an accident yesterday.  I was walking Logan and Nik on my normal walk behind the house (which is off leash in a ravine), up ahead a lady with 3 labs is walking.  I keep Logan with me and shout over "are your dogs friendly?" and she says "Oh, yes very!"  as her dogs come charging over, so I allow Logan to "go play".  She then says "Oh, that one makes a lot of noise but doesn't do anything" as this yellow lab is going nuts, I just start to recall Lo as she LUNGES at him, ferociously.  He yelps and I'm trying to get over to them when he makes a beeline for me, and he's looking past me, as I hear growling from behind, i spin and while my attention was on the Logan... a black lab has Nikki pinned to the ground, I can't even see her, she's burried under this POS dog.  I have a choice as I reach down collar or scruff.  I grabbed the beast by the scruff of it's neck and pulled it off Nik not so gently.  Picked up Nikki who is sopping wet (with saliva) and recall logan away yelling at the lady to call her damn dogs.  I check Nik she seems ok, so then I grab Logan, he's got two spots he's bleeding from RIGHT BY HIS LEFT EYE (AGAIN! that's the eye that had the cut cornea.) in his eyebrow and then right along the outside corner. I check to make sure he can see... grab Nik again, check her, see if she's bleeding, no.. check him again. I'm trying not to let the dogs know how upset I am.  She starts saying now "OMG! I'm so sorry!! They've never done that before, she (the yellow one) has only left 'wet marks' on dogs... never broken the skin. I'm thinking why didn't you just say your dogs weren't friendly?  I'm really upset she sees I'm crying and fussing with his eye and I said "well she broke skin this time.  right by his eye." She has the audacity to ask me why I'm upset.  I'm like "Well 1. he's my baby.  2. i show him and 3. it's his eye... I'd really like it if he could use it to see."  I'm so pissed I can't see straight and she's like well let me see.  The proceeds to tell me she can't see that there's anything wrong.  I said, "You cannot see the blood and cuts?" she said "Well I don't have my glasses." Grrrrr, I know she was trying to make it into nothing.  But my dog is bleeding lady, don't play dumb.

(((sighs deeply))) you can imagine how really, really angry I am. I asked "How can I get in touch with you if I need to take them to the vet?"  So I got her name and phone number (and double checked by checking white pages.) Both owwiess on logan have scabbed up and I'm just watching his eye.

So, that's the story.  Just really frustrating.  He met a dog today and didn't seem at all phased by the attack, he was just as happy to meet this (very friendly) GSP, so I'm relieved that it's not leaving a mark.  Nik however has become VERY DA. She saw a dog and she went even more bonkers than normal she has some LA, but this was a new level of "STAY AWAY FROM ME!"  Great, huh?

Great!  I hope not coc or gia either.. i've been doing some research.  Ugh.  Thank you for the good thoughts... we apparently could use them!

I also need to exercise whatever demon living in his left eye... this is the 2 actual injury I've gone to the vet for.  I used the meds from the first accident on it in one other instance, where it was doing the same thing as the first cut to his cornea.

aww poor guy...how scary for you all too. Stupid woman...she needs a checking into whatever boards are handy!

The stress thing is a common trigger with both issues I think...and that was stressful. I think callie has some stuff..slippery elm? She recommends for upset tummies. You might PM her about that...it's supposed to work very well.

That'd have me steamed, too...Cleo is such a friendly lummox she'd take a lot of punishment before givng up on her species. Me? I'd react more like your Nik...lol!

    • Gold Top Dog

hahahahaha I'm more like Nik, too. I already doubted that the guys GSP was indeed friendly!  Logan didn't doubt it for a minute "MOM!! MOM!! I wanna GO! It's a dog! Let's PLAY!!!"  .. gotta be gentle with the big ones, they aren't as smart as the small, spunky ones :)

Thanks, good idea, I'll look to see what the results say then I may go get some slippery elm.

I hope you're right... stress is potent stuff!
