Lost dog section?

Wouldn't you want to get the largest possible distribution of the message?  I'm thinking that most people check "Chat" where if it were in another section it might not been seen by as many people.

That's what I think too, personally. If we stick it in "People Looking For Dogs' as a subsection I think the views would suffer.

For MY two cents, in all candor I wouldn't want a separate section.  That's all well and good for those who attempt to read EVERY post here -- but just the list of "posts not read" is more eyecatching to someone who LIVES NEAR or who knows someone who lives there.  Even I'm not that dedicated to check another whole "section" ... but I do notice them when they're sporadically posted.

It's kinda who you are wanting to read it -- a separate section would be nice but I'd fear it would be seen by fewer folks?

 I also think most people would probably not look in a separate section. I'd rather keep it the way it is - periodic, well-labeled announcements in General Chat.

I can't imagine it would be effective.  I am on a photography newsgroup that has a section where people can post lost or stolen equipment.  There are a few posts in that section but I don't know and I doubt anything has ever been recovered as a result.
