Pom's political thread

    Pom's political thread

Lani...I don't know that members should be able to tell mod's when to close their threads? Isn't this what Jaime wanted us not to do?

Not picking at you just curious as to why Pom's request was honored rather than a note back telling her she need not post further if she doesn't wish to? We could always tell the folks responding to lay off her, or she could blank them out totally if she wanted?

I was told that if the OP wanted the thread closed it should be honored.  ... at least that's what i was told!  I dunno...?

But I don't think people should be told to lay off her, I mean my warning in the thread is truly what i feel. if you're going to give your opinion... be prepared to get some back. As long as it's not calling someone names or being rude, it's a message board and if you don't know politics are going to be a hot topic, then ... you deserve what you get.

I'll reopen it if you think it should be.

Well Jaime said no locking threads...she hates that. Technically this isn't locking a thread... but if a Mod says no more posts...same thing?

I guess to me it's not for them to dictate to us, what stays open when they have the power to completely edit out any and all posts they made? We are here for sure to keep them from being dog piled on...and we can warn to discuss the topic which was the primaries, but personally directed posts are not going to stay up...then if they snipe it's their butts on the line..

I dunno,we shuld ask Jaime or Kate...I have been wrong enough times to be comfy having it happen one more time LOL.

LOL - i'm ok being wrong, too.... although I can't say I like it.  I'll unlock it.  But you take her next complaint, I swear that woman finds more trouble and then complains about it  Aggravating.

But let's get clarification.  I'm not sure. I know locking threads isn't Jaime's cup of tea, but I thought it WAS ok, when the OP asked for it.  But, ... truly I don't know.

I'll say i've had a change of heart, thread remains open, but keep it on topic, respectful... and blah-blah-blah.

Thanks for bringing it up... and ADMIN! ... what's the rule of thumb on this subject!?

    • Gold Top Dog

I don't want you to un-do it if you are at all unsure Lani...I am fine waiting til tomorrow for clarification...because I need to know too so we can all be on the same page.

    • Gold Top Dog

Honestly, i don't mind having pom sit on the hot seat. .. she kinda set herself up for it.  So game on.  But, I would love to have the clarification, too.  Being on the same page would be nice! lol

I'm a bit burnt out, this weekend was crazy on the board. Trolls, trolls, arguments... name calling... Oye.  I'm glad you're back, and kate will be back tomorrow, poor dear :)  Hopefully she's well rested!

BTW - i just got a screw driver... won't you join me for a drink, Gina?  It makes this PM i'm about to compose to Pom a lot more tolerable.

And thanks for calling her on that "DO IT NOW" attitude, did you see, she wished us all a "goodnight" LOL

    • Gold Top Dog

    she's a pip LOL. A treasure...cute like a stomach-pump!

    *tipping my Killian's to ya!*

    • Gold Top Dog

ROTFLMAO -- ahh, nothing so cute as a stomach pump!!

    **tips screwdriver**

    Cheers!!

I posted a warning and edited a member on this thread. Likely going to edit Bevo too, then my post quoting her to keep things even. They are focusing on everything but the topic at the moment lol.

    • Gold Top Dog

Good grief, lol... maybe i should have left it locked! LOL  Did you see Pom edited her post on page 5... she's no longer offering hugs.  Darn Confused

.... I've had a long day, I'm going to bed, if you want to go to head out we can deal with what remains of the nuclear fall out in the morning... or will it be nuclear winter by then?

    Geesh.

I agree with Jaime that we shouldn't lock threads - though I add the caveat that I think in DIRE emergencies it's OK to do at least temporarily (and Lani, your lock last week most definitely fell under that category) but if the OP requests that a thread be shut down in any way, or removes the content of their own posts within in, I do generally post a note saying that since the OP no longer wishes to be associated with the discussion, that other members should either start a new thread or confine their replies/responses on the old one to comments other than the OP's.  It's a bit flexible since each situation is different, in the same way that what we say in an in-thread warning depends on the thread in question.  Locking very temporarily to let tempers cool is not, IMHO, a bad thing, but generally only a useful tool when the usual suspects are arguing around and around in circles...and I don't think we've needed to do that in months anyway.

99% of the time, threads need to stay open always....the remaining 1% need to be unusual circumstances.

I have, on occasion, removed a thread totally at the request of the OP, but only if it has just a few replies or less and there's a good reason for it, and the time has passed during which the OP can do it themselves.  Actually, I think that's happened only once.  If a discussion has gotten going, then the thread stays.....requesting a thread be locked/removed just because you started a topic and don't like the responses isn't good enough, especially when said topic is a known hot button.  Members here are usually adults, and usually experienced enough to know that starting a thread on ANYTHING could turn into a pitched battle, and all we are here to do is make sure the rules don't get broken.  If the OP of a thread appears not to understand that, then a private note from one of us might be warranted.

I can't go shopping at Prada and then complain to my credit card co. about the size of my bill....
