I pm'd this member and tipped them off to our no solicitation rule. I edited their post as well. Just letting all know.

related...there is a thread now, in General I believe, soliciting VOTES for a photo contest. How are we handling these? Many times you win money or items so it is for personal gain...but members in good standing have been allowed ONE post and that's it as well...

It's been awhile so...what are we doing about these now? I almost sent the below but wanted to check with Admin first:

"I saw your post and wanted to let you know that one post like this is okay but as the voting goes along, try not to make more new posts but bump the one you already have. Asking for votes, etc has gotten out of hand in past, unfortunately...and in general soliciting members isn't something the Admin like.

This instance is fine, as you're a known member and are just asking for some help with votes. Keep it to one thread and all should be well...but I'll touch base with Admin just to make sure things haven't changed. they do that sometimes, esp when I am not paying close attention...lol.

Good luck to you and Teddi....

One thread is fine, have no issues with that.  Don't think Jaime does either, but I'll check with her next week just in case.

I thought so too...just checking lol. I know in time's past it'd get kinda nutty with a few people doing it at the same time...making new threads saying: THREE DAYS LEFT! ONE MORE DAY....JUST A FEW HOURS....etc...LOL.

Oh this would also apply to charity stuff too (NDR ones)? I know Glenda does her MS Walk, and a while ago we had some thread where a few people actually complained about that...sheesh....I'd love to know the ground rules before that comes up again.

I will double check all this with Jaime, who I plan on speaking to next week, but according to ME (take that for whatever it's worth LOL)...

Anything NOT for personal gain is fine.  Fun photo contests as long as it's just one thread and not flooding the board, charity fundraisers like the MS walk, asking for donations of objects for charity auctions to benefit rescues or whatever, fine.  Just no asking for money for one's self/organisation, advertising of goods or "hey check out my cool site" when that site is for the selling of goods.
