    Explanations for moved threads?

It would be nice, if when threads are moved, a brief note were included about the reason for the move. Since the "General Chat" forum tends to be the most viewed/active/responded to (some special interest forums excluded), it in some ways is the most desirable location for a thread. So, when a topic is moved from there into a less-trafficked subforum, it can feel like a bummer.

I will admit to feeling a bit slighted recently when a thread I posted looking for help with fleas was rapidly moved to the "grooming" section with no explanation - why "grooming"? Why not health, or product reviews, or...? Meanwhile, threads regarding shampoo and debris getting caught in fur have remained in General Chat for quite some time. Although perhaps unintentional, the move does come across as a slight and is frustrating! The "blow" (such as it may be) would be significantly softened by a few words of... something. Otherwise, it feels like be singled out for no apparent reason, and is not a lot of fun.

When I recently opened up the "Grieving" thread...I put in in the General section too.  It was moved and I was able to find it easily because it was showing up in My Discussions and the Active threads.

I also got an email that notified me it was moved.

I'm sorry you felt singled out...that's no good.

Grooming?  heck I don't even 'subscribe' to that one!

I moved it, and it was not a slight, it just needed to be somewhere other than General Chat.  If we had a section for parasites or Flea/Tick prevention, or something like that, it would actually be useful because a good number of folks have questions on flea and tick prevention and treatment.  Anything having to do with the skin/coat condition and how to treat it, well, it could be health, or it could be grooming, I simply chose Grooming because I didn't want to assume your dog had a health problem simply because he has fleas.  (I honestly thought that would have been sort of offensive - so I did try to take your feelings into consideration.)  It's not Product Review because that space is specifically for individual products to be given feedback - not for people looking for suggestions.

I'm glad you posted publicly to ask the question so it could be answered publicly.  Nobody should feel slighted by moving a thread.  I do try to be sensitive to the way someone would interpret actions here, but I can't always anticipate how something could go awry from an alternative perspective.

And it helps *you* also to know how folks react -- I typically think of stuff like that as health-related (because of so much discussion about which/what ones because of potential side effects and also the health risk to parasites in general).  And me with all the mixes -- "grooming" is that place I take Tink & Luna to get their nails done LOL (The only two dogs I've ever had in my life that needed 'grooming' were Billy and Muffin and they both thot it was better than dinner & a movie! LOL).  But you get high marks in my book for trying hard *to* be sensitive -- it wouldn't have occurred to me that health might be a 'negative' (and that's my failing).

Essentially Paige -- moderators can't win for losing!!  It's in the danged "rules of life" somewhere I think!  (and remember, I've been moderator on another little bitty board - there's no in between ... either it's dead & dying or it took me three hours a day to dig out every day from the spam we had before our new spam filter!)  I think what makes it extra hard is that we just don't have as much traffic so the 'lesser travelled' places seem particularly remote. Everyone's habits on how they access the board are pretty different.

Haha, totally. Thanks for the explanation, Paige. Just wanted to put it out there publicly because 1) I was bothered and didn't want to stew, 2) I figured if I was bothered, some other people might be bothered some time too, 3) it's not being singled out if you see other people experiencing the same thing :-p

I know the mods have a tough job, so thumbs up to you guys, no hard feelings, etc. :)
