Heads up - out of town

I will be out of town this weekend at an Obed/Rally Seminar with no internet access that I'm aware of.  I ran through the 2 pages of IDs and approved a bunch - not all, some looked questionable.  Next week my dad has surgery on Tues so I expect to have limited free time - will try to get on during lunches at work.

Thank you - so far, so good.

I just approved a bunch more IDs.  There are some that are questionable that I'd rather be around to help police if they're going to be spammers or whatnot, but I won't have internet at my mom's and if there's a state of Emergency tomorrow because of the 20+ inches of snow, I won't be at work, either. SO, I just left them to sit another day.

Thanks for managing the forum solo for the next day or so, Karen.  I do appreciate it.  PS, I love your new siggie.  Something very fresh and spring-ish about those flowers and Bugsy's beautiful self.  Hope all is well there.  Gracie got a forced retrieve lesson last night - it appears her mind is not blown, so that is awesome!  Talk to you all Thurs at the latest.

    excellent news!

I was going to do ID's tonight, so will look at the potential spammers and go from there

Don't worry about the forum - you do so much and have banned one of the current idiots so no worries! LOL

Good girl Gracie!!  Bugsy and I have been doing ecollar training for about a month, mostly good but if he wants to ignore it, he does, sigh.  I was telling Jackie that today he was at times looking up from his sniffing, ignoring my 'here' and then his eyes would squint & twitch waiting for the zap, but he had no intention of responding,  he's such a butthead at times, and I love him anyway. More training ahead - I wonder how we will ever be able to proof this on geese.

In the larger version of my sig pic you can see the bee that Bugsy is focused on.  I needed to see the flowers and greeness - our winter has been no where near what the Northeast has had (family in NY & PA keep me posted) but it has been awful for here.  We had a teasing weekend and hopefully FL will be nice next week.

Good vibes to your dad, you and the rest of the family

    Karen

CRAP, I think I gotta take him off the 3-day ban.  Whoopsies.... lol Edit - NOPE , he's still on until 4:33 tomorrow. YAAAY

Thx for the vibes.  Thanks for managing.  It's been hectic - my suicidal friend is acting up again, and I want to say "Look, if you want to trade stresses, lemme know, cuz I know  how to take care of your main issue - DUMP THE DOUCHE BAG!" lol

    Back to the grind...

The following is said w/caution b/c I don't know if you're working w/a trainer and some dogs will not tolerate increases in stim - in fact, some dogs you should turn the stim down because they will do better.  SO, with all that said!!  Turn the stim up if he's ignoring it (ie, just bearing thru the stim).  Also keep him on-lead in conjunction w/the ecollar until he comes reliably every single time.  Don't let him get away with ignoring the stim - reel him in w/the leash.  Investing in a long line is useful when teaching the recall w/an ecollar - it's the way to guide the dog back to you.  Even a dog who "knows" come/here will go in the "wrong" direction when the stim is applied because they don't understand how to interpret the stim.  Or, they choose an alternative and you have no way to get what you want without having a physical leash connected to the dog.

I forget where you are in NC.  I sent you the link to that trainer, right?  I'm pretty sure there's no Sit Means Sit schools in NC yet.  Hmm...

    I SEE THE BEE!!!

Gracie is alergic to bees, so I'd have a heart attack if that was her. lol

I just posted a super duper long post and got an error message.............

so I hope your dad is recovering

loved the snow pics, Gracie is 'all legs'

whereabouts is your parents place?  i know NE fairly well although its been years since I've had a good ride around

I would never send B off to be trained (the place you sent is in Charlotte) - I've seen way too many trainers lose their cool with him and become heavy handed.  i understand their frustration but I will not put him in position to be a target for it.

that particular day I did increase stim and also used the sound, which in the past has snapped him out of the zone he enters, but he wasn't for obeying - I do use a long line but you can't physically reel him in if he isn't obliging.

yesterday and today he was awesome on the collar, together we will get it, it will just take time for him to essentially 'submit' to it and accept it.  We went through the same process with the invisible fence.  Once he submitted/accepted he became 100% reliable

I most certainly did not un-ban anyone - I can't even recall how to ban someone LOL

which reminds me that Callie wants some posts joined which I did but she now says they aren't - tons to do today but will have a look at what she wants later

I did the approvals last night

Yep, Gracie is all legs - and now lumps, poor girl.  But my mom used to say she was the only one in our family with long skinny legs, until my new niece came into the family - she's 13 and I think she's taller than me, but about 1/2 my circumference!!

My parents are in the same area as me - southern NH in the whopping 13 mile coastline that NH has.  Dad came home yesterday, along w/a hospital bed for him to sleep in downstairs, since their bedroom is up a flight of stairs and he's not able to do stairs yet.

No idea how to join posts anymore.  Looks like someone is calling for a bump on the rules, too.  I think Lani is swamped with work and showing, so I think it's up to us.  Thx for doing approvals - I see neither one of us have approved Gingerbreadmom... lol!

Glad to hear that Bugsy's training is going well.  It's hard to give advice about the ecollar over the internet or even telephone - it's one of those things that seeing the dog in person is the best, since it's such a nuance tool.  The Bugsy here is getting some training with his e-collar work, too - he's had some in the past, and then just focused on new work.
