    HELP REQUESTED IN LATEST REPLY

    http://forum.dog.com/members/Casino-Dover-Down-Hotel/default.aspx

There are what look like image links for an online Casino.... now, does this fall under advertising, spam since it's in their profile?  I sent them a pre-emptive warning about this - watch for SPAM from this user.  I think we should ban the profile right now over the links in the profile, but I don't know that this is a technical rule break....

    Thoughts??

    EDIT... MAAAJOR EDIT:

Some fool has created about 18 different Casino profiles today, here's a smattering:

I'm happy to go thru and clean these all up.... and would be willing to take on the task of weeding them out going forward, if we all agree that this is pure advertising traffic spam and should be deleted.  Do we need to update the rules for this type of sh!t?

Alright, I have Banned 272 profiles from today, 9 from yesterday, and 2 from the day before.  (My wrist is about to collapse, I think, lol)

    • Notes on a few of the banned oddities (ie, not casinos or drugs in names) Some snuck under the radar because they had generic ids - but when I pulled up their profiles, there were drug sales adverts.  Two others had very innappropriate user names, and one had total nonsense search words in their profile.

Laurissa and I have Disapproved 39 profiles from today (AND COUNTING), 28 from yesterday.

Meanwhile - there are two profiles that I have tried repeatedly to ban or disapprove or make any changes, and nothing happens.  Can one of you two try to kill them - you will find them under Approved profiles created Today:

    1. Buy Tamiflu Online Uk 687
    2. Buy Cheap Celecoxib 989

Meanwhile, the crappy profiles persist - and they all have the email address as topsiteemaildomain.gmail.com with multiple "." at various points throughout the "topsiteemaildomain" part, so that it creates a new address every time.  This is peeving me.  I hope that there's a way of getting certain drug words banned in user profiles and any posts, including Blogs.

    Lani said she'd try, too.

From the Date Created drop-down menu, choose ON, then set the date to October 23, 2009

Then from the Filter By Status drop down menu, choose Approved.  You will see those two names among the other real people that were approved yesterday.  Click on the name and it will open the profile and that's where you can change the Approved status to Disapproved, or Banned.  Save Changes when you're done - the screen will refresh and and you'll get a message in a green box that the changes were successfully saved.  If you don't get that message, then you're getting the same issue I am - that we can't kill the profile.  I'd say at that point we move the attributes to the annonymous user.

Ok, I just went ahead and Deleted the users and set their properties to go to the Anonymous user.  Not sure what that does, but it's done. :D

Meanwhile, the "blogs" of our drug friends are still out there, despite the profiles being banned.  I'm wondering if deleting the profile for this dude will delete the blog, too... since we have no rights/abilities to edit or kill the blogs.

I've been checking in on registrations about 5 times a day, from my phone if I can't get to a computer (like yesterday and Saturday) .... we are still getting stupid requests. I also deny applicants if they are using obviously fake email accounts.  If they aren't serious enough about joining our forum with a real email, then I don't want them on the forum..... sounds like trouble to me!

Re: the users, I never could find the ones you were referring to, Paige. So, I thought you'd gotten it taken care of.  I think deleting them was a fine choice, obviously we'd just be denying them anyway.

I don't have any idea about the blogs.  Personally I feel they are more work than they are worth. None of our regular users seem to use them.

I got the impression from Laurissa's note that dog.com PTB accept that some people will use fake e-mails, so I've been letting them in if they're not the totally bogus ones we know about (dom.ainsit.ewh.ate.ver@gmail.com) .  There was one today that I looked up and it's a service for creating crap addresses.  I'm watching each of these new posters for their activity and their profiles to see what they do.  So far, nobody is an issue other than someone named maria.(somethingorother) - she made one blog titled "pid" (which was the name of her interior design business), with the contents that just says "living room furniture".  I replied and asked "what the point of this blog?"  She will get deleted in a couple of days if we don't see anything good from her, I think.

I am continuing to check the pending approval ones, too, and it's obvious who is fake and who is questionable/legit.

I concur - although I've seen Anne use them, and others like Ixas girl in the past.  I still think there are plenty of other resources out there for people who want to blog - most of the blogs we see here have nothing to do with dogs, anyway.  They should go bye-bye, imo.
