Cocker Spaniels

Another thing about the coat is that the reputable breeders in ACS are pretty much ONLY going to be show breeders. (I believe there IS a field ACS club in Oregon or Washington- but field bred american cockers are pretty much extinct) - and in cockers, this means the really extreme coat.

If I had my heart set on a cocker, I'd go with a field-bred English. Higher energy, yeah, but not horrible- and lovely, lovely working temperament.

And beautiful!!! I know an actual, working, English Cocker. She has almost no coat (a light, light fringe on her legs and underneath, slight feathering on the ears and feet). She's speckled, and has such a gorgeous face. She's slightly timid with new people, but she warms up quickly. I adore her.
