    Alaskan Malamute

Sooo... let's see you malamute people! I've seen a couple of mally people and I want see pics of your mals and talk about how fantacular mal's are. ;)

I myself own a malamutt (he's a malamute mix) and he's all mal personality. Can't beat it! His name is Cash and he's in my avatar.

I previously owned a real malamute, Yukon, who was only with me for two years before he passed on. He got me started, quite by accident, loving the breed.

How'd you learn to love them?

Here are some pics of my dude:

Yes, I am owned *ahem* I mean I own a malamute. I recently noticed an influx of Mals and their owners on the boards... sometimes I felt all alone [:(]. Anyway, I grew up with a Malamute, Kimo and he was a really fun dog to have around. I love mals, although I now (a year and couple months later) realize I probably should have gotten an 'easier' breed for my first dog, I've learned so much from Maddi that I can't thank her enough.

Cash is absolutely stunning! Do you know what he's mixed with? He looks like a purebred to me (a wooly though) and I would never guess he was a mix if someone hadn't told me [:D].

Here's my miss Maddi, and of course that's her in my avatar and signature:

I just love mallys. I've thought about owning one but I live in the desert where temps can get over 100 degrees so for the health of any mally I thought it would be better for me to go with a different breed.

Have you ever seen then in action? They just love what they do almost as much as the person on the slea enjoys the ride.

Someone told me Giz looked part malumute but I've never seen it in her.

Just so happened that Animal Planet had a half hour show dedicated to Mals this morning...i thought it was an interesting show and i learned some facts about them and thier personalities,of which it says they have alot..lol

    nice pups..let see more!!

mmm, mals have a surplus of personality!

I have seen them in action and I plan to at least to rec pulling with Maddi, probably ski-joring as well. I want her to finish filling out though so I don't have to buy several harnesses [:D] or worry about an adjustable one chaffing/loosening.

For now I make her carry her own water on hike in her back pack [:D].

and I can't believe I missed the show! I love it when mals get even 15 minutes of fam... they always seem to get less overall attention than Sibes... which I guess could be a good thing [;)].

Xebby, I agree with you. I don't see any mal in Gizmo (although you never know!). She's a beauty none the less.

Maddi is a beauty! I love her coat. I'm not getting a wooly again... too much friggin hair! ;)

Yukon was the perfect first dog. He was an old man (unbeknownst to me, however) and was just super chill and mellow. But I liked his "foundation traits" like being really pack oriented, the kind of "screw you" attitude followed with utter and complete devoltion.

When he passed unexpectedly I began looking for another Mal or Mal mix and found Cash. He looks almost exactly like Yukon, which people said was creepy but it didn't bother me. Yukon was a wooly.

I am not sure if Cash is a mix, however, on a "fat" day, he weighs in at a whooping 55lbs. Kinna small for a mal, so who knows what he's mixed with!

Cash taught me a lot more about being a good dog owner--he required a lot of work, but it's those "foundation" traits that I just love.

Hmm... I wonder where the "others" are [sm=uhoh.gif]

I dont have one but i have to say, they are stunningly beautiful!

I think one of the magnificent things about Mals is their awesome pulling strength, comparable only to the Am Staff. They are stronger than Sibes and most Alaskans (which is not so much a breed as a type dog that had been outbred for quite some time, before pedigree-oriented people got into racing). Though they may not have the top speed of a Siberian or a greyhound, they make up for it in freighting strength. Not to mention they are absolutely beautiful.

Hey guys, I have an Alaskan Mal X Sibe. Her mum was a beautiful Alaskan Mal and Mya is really starting to look like her :) I personally think she looks more Sibe but the vet is convinced she will be well built with lots of hair like a Mal.. he personality is still growing but my gosh is she a funny one, a great character. I am a very happy mum indeed...

    Rozie..

    Wow more Mal people.

My baby is nearly 3 years old male named Storm . I would love to put pictures up but I don't have a scanner to scan the the pictures I have, and the digetal camera died so I can't take any more and there isn't any photos on this computer.

They are a beautful breed very strong headed and will push you to the limit. This is what I love about them. There is never a dull moment with one in your house, they are a laugh a minute. Would love to get another as they are addictive maybe one day soon.

I absolutly love woolies I think they are so beautiful, although I do agree with the hair as I get enough hair out of mine when he sheds.

the kind of "screw you" attitude followed with utter and complete devoltion.

Yep, thats a Mal, along with the continual thought going through thier head "what can I get into now to cause trouble"

One of the best dog breeds there is going, but I may be biased. I'll try and post some picks when I get home.

Has anyone found any Mal only sites / forums

I don't have a malamute myself, but I was roommates with my brother for 5 years and he has a malamute and a husky.  His malamute is a gorgeous, sweet girl.  She's only 70 pounds so on the smaller side but she is purebred.  Unfortunately, she has head a ton of health problems.  She is from an irresponsible breeder whose bitch had a huge litter of 9.  The breeder was just trying to dump off a few of the smaller ones and my brother said he would take her.  She has actually assisted the police in making an arrest this past year.  A man hit a motorcycle cop and was fleeing from the police.  He drove into my brother's house and jumped the fence to try and escape.  The malamute had him cornered and peeing himself when the police showed up.  Anyway, I feel like an honorary mal owner since I did live with one for 5 years and still see her all the time.

Haha the funny thing is the Mal probably only wanted a belly rub or scratch on the ear, they are such sooks.
