    Please Guess What Breed...

    Howdy!

My husband and I just rescued a dog from our local shelter (who was scheduled to be PTS this week) and weren't certain about her breed.  She was listed as a "Husky Mix" but we're wondering what else she might have in her because we love her personality and my husband said that whatever she is would be the next breed of dog we we would get (when we need another one).  She is very sweet, docile and affectionate indoors and follows us wherever we go (and seems to prefer our company to that of our other dog -- even though they act like they just love each other).  Outside she becomes energetic, alert and ready for action!  She is just the best acting dog either of us have ever seen!!  She is so sweet that you just can't help love her; especially the way she snuggles up to you.

Anyway, please take a look at her pictures.  My husband put her in a set of pictures of other dogs (including a wolf and coyote) just to see what she looks like next to them.

Thanks for any and all responses.  [;)]

P.S.  This program wouldn't let me put up the four pictures I had so I put the one of the various dogs together.  She is the one in the very center.

Here's another picture of her laying on our futon.

Well, I just found this site (we've been looking for days) and these Sib Huskies look very much the same as our new doggie.

She makes me think of  longhaired German Shepherd, so maybe a Shepherd/Husky mix?  The blaze/blue eyes definitely look Husky, but the black facial markings (and it looks like she has a saddle, but it could just be the picture) look Shepherd.

I just Googled longhair shepherd and found this picture from pet-dog-magazine.com:

Looks somewhat similar to your girl [:)]

    Thanks for replying!

Yes, she does have a GSD look to her but I never thought of looking up the long-haired version.

Off to look up some more...Thanks!!

I think Nikki got it right.

Now, Katt, can you guess my dog?

Since the dog was labeled "Husky Mix" at the pound (we really couldn't see it ourselves) my hubby found this dog on the HuskyColors.com website:

His name is Badger and he is a sable-colored Husky.  This is the closest looking Sib Husky that we found so far.

    Ron2,

My husband and I are thinking....German Shepherd and Lab mixed?

    Now...what is the correct answer?

Okay, my husband took the long-haired German Shepherd and the Sable Siberian Husky and added them beside our new dog (we haven't decided on a name yet).

    What do you think?

I agree with german shepherd/ husky mix.  I can see the shepherd in her and the husky is a no brainer with those pretty blue eyes.

I see a lot of Husky.  I really don't see GSD.  I see more of a resemblance to the sable Collie than the long coat GSD.   I have seen Siberians with a fluffy coat, too.  Her personality sounds a lot like the Siberian/GSD we had.

Oops, almost forgot- she's beautiful!  I hope she brings you as much joy as our Siberian/GSD brought us.

    Thanks for your reply.

After seeing that website [linkhttp://www.huskycolors.com]www.huskycolors.com[/link] we now see the Siberian Husky (at first we were unsure).  Sometimes I do think the saddle looks like a German Shepherd, but then Sib Huskies have those too.

We think she is beautiful also!  I am so happy that we got her!!  At first I was a little scared of her because at times she does make me think of a wolf and in certain lighting her eyes look red (I am afraid of dogs most of the time).  However, last year we got a Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix and he is about 90 - 100 pounds.  I'm not scared of him since we raised him from a puppy, but any other dog I would be.  So, when we got this one the first day I was really frightened, but my husband loved her initially because she looked like an American Indian Dog.  Then when her and our 1.5 year old GP/BC puppy met they played and wrestled.  Since I was unused to it, it scared me and I had to leave the room (I was a nervous wreck).  However, she is so loving and sweet I look back and wondered how I could have been afraid of her.  Every night after supper her and I sit on the futon and watch "Golden Girls".  She can sit in the same room with us while we eat and not even beg for food.  I'm telling you that she is the best behaved dog we've ever seen!  The pound said that the elderly man got rid of her because she dug up his garden.  So, if she was an outside dog, she sure had adapted to being inside.

If your dog, which was Husky/GSD mixed acted like this, then that is what we'll get from now on.  We just love her personality!!

Again, thanks for your reply!!  [:)]

    Siberian Husky and Lab.

Husky mixes are a unique blend and temperment can be a crap shoot, depending on the percentages of parentage.

If there is any Lab in her, it is a couple generations back  When you breed a dog with upright ears to a dog with floppy ears, you will always get a dog with halfway floppy ears.  Obviously she has wonderfully pointy ears and probably doesn't have any floppy-eared ancesters in her recent lineage.  She could be an Alaskan Husky, which is not quite a breed.  It is a mix of whatever sort of husky and dog that makes a high-speed sleddog.  There tends to be a lot of Siberian in them and a good blend of other mixed pulling dogs that have proven to be good sleddogs.  Every dog looks different.  There is no set conformation, any standard is based on performance.  They tend to look a lot like Siberian Huskies.
