what breed is my dog?

i was wondering what breed my dog is.. can somebody please identify his breed for me? is he a mix of what and what? thanks in advance.

Looks very much like a min pin or could even be a chi/rat terrier mix

um... ya looks like a mini pin. but hes just too big to be a mini pin. i heard from the one who gave me this that he has some chihuahua in him. but i don't see any chihuahua trait in him.

but for sure he's a mixed breed, right?

humm.. how big is he? It's kinda hard to guess in the pic. I thought that was a kids hand and why I was thinking small. Do you have more pics? He sure is a cutie, what's his name?

The larger eyes, high forhead and shap muzzle tell me chi. They do come in black and tan which is sometimes mistaken for a min pin. chihuahuas are more common than pins so when guessing I usally go with the more common breed in the area. I really am no expert at toys so I couldn't say if he's mixed or not? My best guess would be a chi mix.

I've seen a few 20lb chihuahuas , mostly because they were overweight and not exactly came from a repertable breeder. With the desiger trend to have a purse dog chis have really been over breed recently and there have been some really strange things that have resulted from this trend.

well, yeah, ur ryt that its a kid's hand. that's my little brother's hand. but my little brother is BIG. haha. i've looked thru some pictures of mini pins on the net and yes i think my dog resembles the appearance of a mini pin. but based on what u said... there's a big possibility too that my dog is a mixed chihuahua. i'm not really familiar with the breed. coz i only had a labrador retreiver and a toy poodle. this dog is new to me. what bout you, what dog do you have?

The dog's head shape is more chihuahua than min pin imo. I'd say Chiahuahua x rat terrier or something.

yep, i think so too... too bad my dog is a mixed breed. but then again, i still like the way he looks. twas a good interbreed i guess. haha

I see Chi and nothing else. Most BYB bred Chi's are HUGE! I have seen purebred Chi's that were almost the height of my 13" Beagles, lol.

IMO....size alone doesn't mean there's anything else there. Bigger Chi's can whelp freer and have bigger litters so they are popular with BYB's...as opposed to the show tinies which need help to whelp sometimes and often have litters of 1 or 2...

I think you own a Chihuahua.

I think chihuahua as well. He looks a little long-backed but not enough to have to be a mix. As Gina was saying... chihuahuas vary SO much because they are such a popular byb dog. I would say MOST of the pet chis I have seen just out with their owners don't resemble the standard (the ones you'd see in a dog show) much at all.

Min pins are very long-legged, and they have a distinct high-stepping gait that you'd recognize right away.

That is DEFINITELY a chihuahua. I have a BYB chi that is built *exactly* like him. I've noticed that poorly bred chihuahuas tend to be much bigger than normal and start to take on a sort of min pin look.

Here's my Pepito- built just like your dog. He even has the same markings, Pepito just happens to be blue and tan rather than black and tan.

geez... thanks everyone... i guess ya'll shed light on me. hahaha. i'm not so familiar with chis coz i'm not so fond of them. hopefully, when my uncle gives me diego's certificate i'll see that he really is a chihuahua. and before i posted here. i read some stuff regarding chis and my diego definitely exhibit most of the chis behavior. i was just skepitic cause he's big and he doesn't look much of a chihuahua, based on what i see on dog shows and television.

so ya'll are sure ryt? that he's a pure bred chihuahua? haha

Obviously no one can say for sure without knowing his ancestry for certain, he does look like a Chihuahua that wasn't bred to standard though. (let's hear it for irresponsible breeders[8|])

However, pure OR mixed, I'm sure he'll be a grand little guy for you[
