A mix between husky and shepherd or something like laika?

Hi this is my dog Diamond. Not a very doggy name but we won't change it as it may be another stress for him comming from the shelter. He's one year old exactly and was listed there as a Siberian Laika. But I seriously doubt he's a Laika, even if I know some lineages of West-Siberian laikas look like him. Who would dumb such a rare dog around here only because he's moving away? Anyways, I am thinking of a mix between a Siberian husky and German Shepherd. Maybe there's something else and not that it matters a lot but it's fun to try to find out [:)]

He's something like 65 cm on the withers and wights more than 35kgs (not sure exactly how much). He's gentle but playful, very interested and open towards people (that reminds me a bit of the huskies), with a very strong hunting instinct and learns fast and executes quite fast differend commands (if there's nothing hunting/playing-worth around).

    Here are some pictures [:D]

Oh wow, he's pretty!  I definitely could see shepherd, his face reminds me a lot of a gsd.  Anyways, he's a stunning boy.  Good luck with him!

    I think you'e right--GSD mix.  He's stunning!

He reminds me of a dog that belonged to a lady that used to post here, but is at a different forum now.  I'm sure alot of the older i-doggers remember Amy and Kobe.

Anyway, I would also say German Shepherd mix, maybe with a little bit of husky thrown in.

You won't beleive this, but, except for his face, he looks like a pure bred GSD I saw on a website.  Supposedly, that color is a throw back, to what I'm not sure.  Unfortunately, that site showed up as "unavailable" when I tried to open it, and  Google search didn't come up with any GSDs that color.  There is a dog advertising canine wheel chairs that looks like that, too.  That said, Diamond's face reminds me of the Husky/GSD we had when we got married.  Chances are he's a Husky/GSD.  One thing is for sure- he's beautiful!

No doubt here, Husky/Sheperd mix. The tail is a dead give away for Husky. Ears are Shepherd like, Huskies have little ears.

He really has a lot of GSD features. The first time I saw him in the shelter, I thought he's a very strange colourded GSD, didn't even see the Siberian part in him. And then, after seeing he was listed as a Laika, I went looking into the web about Sib. Laikas and found almost exact copy of Diamond but with a way more curved tail and darker colours. Diamond's tail curve a bit, like a husky would do it but not as much as "normal" Laikas [;)] And then, as I had a very, very beautiful Sib. husky before, I started to see Diamond's huskyness. His mask, the position of the tail when excited, the hunting instinct, the caracter.. I have a question though, huskies have smaller years, but don't GSDs have bigger years than those of my dog? I am not really an expert of the breed [8|]

I may find the Laika's picture, just for the fun. (edit, I got lucky, found the link quickly http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/matkatoverit/kostingalleria1.htm )

Btw, thanks to all of you for the nice words. Just couple of days ago someone was very rude towards this kind of mixes and I got angry cause I love every single dog, no matter the breed (I had a puddle, an American Shapiel (apelling? ), an Irish setter and a husky before I got the mix and they were all wonderful dogs.

You can click on my photobucket links and see German Shepherds and 2 Husky mixes. Also, I used to breed Huskies. In answer to your question, the ears of a Shepherd are close to your dog's ears. The reason I am sure about Husky being part of him is that the tail is very much like a Husky.

You said you owned a Husky before, then you have a taste of what the breed is like........go with your instinct.

One more thing, the feet are very much like a Husky, too.[;)]

Hope that helps some more......he is very beautiful.......

At first, I thought GSD but you could have a Husky/Laika mix. Or even a Husky/Laika/GSD. Husky males get to be about 60 pounds or so. Your's is at 77 lbs, which suggests a mix with GSD. Also, 25 inches is approx height of a Husky male. The ears a similar of both GSD and Laika. At one point, Laikas were bred as big as Huskies but they wanted to limit the size as a larger dog often has a slower speed and maneuverability.

Quite possibly a Husky/Laika, or even a full Laika from a big line. Before anyone says that's too rare to be possible, one can find Pharoah Hounds in rescue.

I looked at all the links, and I still think a lot of German Sheperd in this dog, the head is very much like German Shepherd.

    Look up white Shepherds..................

I was watching now pictures of White Shepherd dogs and indeed, not only the size of the years but also the shape of the head is very close to Diamond's. Huskies have more, hm I don't know if this word is exact but.. wider heads, more round. Also the lenght of the tail and many, many other things. Anyways, I just edited couple of photos, I am eager to show them. I will post links in order to not load too much the dog.com forum server with pictures.

    Here's my boy

Found what I was looking for on a site of GSD patterns. Scroll down to "Panda Shepherds"

ETA: Found out why I couldn't get that other site- she changed the name of her kennel.to Panda Shepherds.
