    Rottweilers/American Pit Bull Terriers

I was researching the beagle breed in my area and they are not very popular around my area. There was one but she was being adopted, she was so cute and i did not want to hold the family up because they looked very excited. So i ask the lady was there any more of the breed in the shelter. She said in an happy voice "No because beagles are not very popular down here".She was not fibbing neither because i was in search of the breed all day but  didnt find anything.i looked in the other kennels and all i saw where Rottweilers,Pit Bull Terrier, and  more mixed breeds. So i was like "Why are there so many rotties and pit bulls here?" She is like "Read the tags". Such terrible statements by the previous owners like These for example "Too much energy" should"ve research that eh? "I was afraid of him because of the press negative comments about the breed". So the lady says "I See you looking at those adorable things like ya want one" with laughter. I Said "Nah because im a first time dog owner and have no exprerience with the breeds" "Good to see you doing homework before just going to get  a dog because its cute like most 1st time owners". "I Will teach you everything you need about this breed and more,If you just stick around". So of course i said Yes! that was an golden opportunity. So i have been observing American Pitbull Terriers And Rottweilers.

    Thanks for reading!

The Rottie is calm, trainable, courageous, and devoted to their owner and family. They have a reliable temperament. Protective, he will defend his family fiercely. These are strong fighters that seem immune to pain. Serious, steady and confident. Firm and careful training is essential for this breed, otherwise you may end up with a very powerful and overly aggressive dog.  Yet they can, with proper handling, also be loyal, loving and very rewarding companions. They require owners who can handle their massive size. The Rottie is a natural guard dog with a mellow temperament. They are highly intelligent and have proven their worth beyond question in police, military, and customs work over many centuries. Because of their size, training should begin fairly young - while the dog is still small, and great care should be taken to ensure that the dog is not made vicious. This breed needs a lot of companionship and socialization to be truly happy. They can be aggressive with other dogs and should be kept on leashes in public places. When the Rottweiler is consistently brought up and trained, it will be a good playmate for the children. It will accept cats and other household pets as long as the dog has had a positive experience with them while it was young. Friends and relatives of the family are normally enthusiastically welcomed. Strangers can get no further than the sidewalk. The breed does well in competitive obedience, schutzhund, and tracking. Male Rottweilers are silent watchers watching everything that moves.Females will bark to protect there Den/Family.

Everything about American Pit Bull Terrier

That sly smile, those determined eyes, that unwaning pleasure to please... the mere quality and characteristics of the APBT have evoked more human emotional, rational, and irrational response than any other breed that exists today.  By no means are these dogs people-haters or people-eaters. Their natural aggressive tendencies are toward other dogs and animals, not people. However if they are properly socialized they will not even be aggressive with them. These are truly quality companions for quality owners only! The American Pit Bull Terrier is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality. Highly protective of his owners and the owner's property, it will fight an enemy to the death. It is usually very friendly, but has an uncanny ability to know when it needs to protect and when everything is okay. The American Pit Bull Terrier can be willful and needs a firm hand. They are generally okay with other pets if they are raised with them from puppy hood.  For the most part they are very friendly, but not recommended for most people. Excellent with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play. As with any breed, they should not be left alone with unfamiliar children. Originally used as fighting dogs, the powerful American Pit Bull may go for the throat of strange dogs. A minimum of training will produce a tranquil, obedient dog. Socialize very thoroughly when young to combat aggressive tendencies and be sure to keep the dog under control when other dogs are present. It has given outstanding results as a guardian of property, but is at the same time esteemed as a companion dog. When properly trained and socialized, this is a very good dog and a great family companion. Unfortunately, some choose to promote the fighting instinct in the breed, giving it a bad name.

I own a Rottweiler and some of the information you've researched is wrong.

Males are silent watchers and Females are barky protectors because they do this to protect there den/family.

This is untrue. My male Rottweiler barks at everything. I wish he were the silent type.

Can"t be trusted around none-canine animals.

This is untrue as well. Rottweilers were bred to be a cattle droving dog. That means they had to be trustworthy enough not to kill them. Based on *my* experiences, my Rottweiler does fine with all sorts of critters. I have/had cats, birds, ferrets, rats, mice, squirrel, reptiles and amphibians around him and he's shown no interest in them. That also has a lot to do with proper socialization which is very important regardless of breed.

I think it's great that you are doing research but keep in mind, some books can be off the mark or make broad generalizations. The best thing to do is to talk to various owners and responsible breeders of the breed.

I have a male and female and mine do match up to the description. They are great with the kids and are also great with my other animals,3 cats, bird, guinea pig. They dont even seem to notice them. They pretty much preferr to lay around until you take out the tennis ball! Then the game is on!
They are very eager to learn and mine are very reliable off lead, not something i would ever trust a beagle to do.Most rotties i have met are big teddy bears and loyal companions.
They can be prone to allergies so its just best to stick to food with out corn or soy to begin with and watch them closely. The 2 i have now are both 8 years old and both have arthritis.Keep them lean and i would give them hip and joint supplements like knox nutrajoint from the start.
Keep learning all you can, they are definitely worth a second look! If you decide you really want a Beagle come to NY.there are atleast 5 or 6 at my local shelters on any given day.

I am a breeder, educator and lover of the Rottweiler Breed.  I ask a long list of questions when I,  INTERVIEW my potientual buyers of my puppies, I want to know that they are well informed about the breed before buying my baby as I don't want them to end up in a shelter or Worse. I give all the buyers information on them, websites to visit and read up on them, and then have them over once again to talk with me, ask their questions, watch them with the puppies and all around see if they truely are ready to own a Rottweiler.  I have found that my Rottweilers get along great with all other animals very well. My Rottie is so afraid of the cat next door that she just lays down and crys while the cat jumps all over her, "this has become a problem because now my rottie will just run when ever any small animal barks at her or growls,LOL I think that if you socialize , train and spend time with any pet they will become very babyish in their ways , like a child.  I never breed with any Males that show any aggression or anger in any way as this should not be passed on and is not exceptable in any way!!  I own Tiny - Shih-tzus as well and believe me they rule the house here even tho they came after the Rottie's.  My Bianca(Rottie) had her first liter may 2006 and she would let the Shih-tzus in to clean, play and sleep with her and her puppoes, That is a good dog!!! I have pic's to show it, she was feeding a pup and the Female Shih-tzu (Hiedi ) was cleaning the pups Butt,LOL and Pebbles has a pup in bed with her before he opens his eyes,  !! it takes a family to raise a Rottie!!!!LOL! For sure here.  Anyone needing info about the breed , feel free to email me, would love to educate them if I can!  DEB

I have a pit mix and she is the love of my life (besides my other family members). I will say this.
    Please adopt.
After you are done with your research, please adopt.
There are SOOO many APBTs and rotties out there waiting for a good home that don't deserve to be at a shelter.
Nothing against reputable breeders who are bettering the breed so that less of these beautiful creatures end up at shelters. But unless you plan on showing or have the knowledge to appropriately breed, please adopt. Until the shelters are emptied of well-temperamented dogs, this is what I believe should be done.

I'm really glad that you're educating yourself on the breeds. I REALLY am.
If only ALL people would do what you're doing there'd be less returned animals, less animals waiting to be homed in shelters.
