If someone wants to pay their own hard earned money for a mixed breed dog, that's their business.. what they get with a "designer" puppy is their own business.

Actually, that isn't really true, especially when you consider that the only people breeding these dogs are usually the puppy mills and the byb's who are only in it for the money, and who do the kind of irresponsible breeding you say you are against. JMHO

Yes, I am against breeding dog for money. I don't agree with byb's or puppymills, what they do and why they do it. I am living with the product of a byb right now, two as a matter of fact. One is a lab who is only five years old and has the health of a dog 15 years old. The other is our "poogle", Molly. Both are dogs we saved from going to the pound. And yes, I did pay for Molly. That's my business. My money and I can do with it what I please. Did I buy her so her "breeders" could turn a profit? No. I bought her to save her life. They'd rather see her put to sleep than be GIVEN away. Sad, horrific but true.
So, I guess, since you're completely against byb's you'd rather see the pups produced by them be put to sleep than pay your hard earned money for one to keep it alive?
I am against byb's and puppy mills. They disgust me and infuriate me.... but I can't stand silently by and watch these innocent puppies be destroyed. Even the puppies from unethical breeders deserve a chance.
And though I don't agree with it, it's still none of my business. I'm not going to preach to someone who just bought a new puppy and tell them how wrong they are for supporting such a practice. It would do no good. Just like preaching to the breeders do no good.
What someone does with their money is their business. Period. You may not agree with it... but they don't care and don't want to hear how horrible they are,  how disgusting the breeder is or how useless their designer puppy is.

At one point all breeds started out as mixes... did they not

Most but not all.  Many of us sighthound people get offended at that.  (Salukis have been around virtually unchanged for many thousands of years)

I think it's great that the OP likes the chug.  I'm hoping that we can create many more inventive breeds.  I really like the idea of mixing the catahoula leopard dog with the karelian bear dog...that way you could have a leopard bear dog- it climbs trees, doesn't change it's spots, eats honey and hibernates 4 months a year...so you reduce your feed costs by 33%.

We could also interbreed the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen with the Jack Russell Terrier and create the PB & J-perfect for a lunchtime companion!

What about mixing a Pug, Poodle and Shnauzer?  Then you'd have a Schnuggle...what better way to end your day than with a Schnuggle from a loved one?  Gosh I'm feeling warm and fuzzy already.

Then there's the all around college dog: Part Chihuahua, part Pug and part Retriever, we like to call it The Chugger.  They always come when invited, and they usually bring friends and if you ever drop your drink, they'll bring it back to you.

Now for the ultimate in designer dogs we have the Saluki/ Malamute cross.  This is strictly for the military folks though, we call it The Salute.  They are extremely patriotic and dedicated to the pursuit of freedom (usually their own) so having a 6 foot fence is a pre-requisite for potential owners.

All of these dogs are being created in labs and being designed with you, the potential niche owner, and your platinum card in mind.  We sell sight unseen and will do no follow up visit, nor will we answer any of your questions except by email, and even that is stretching it.  Please feel free to stop by our site anytime and order your own rare designer breed.

do you think my chi is ugly?  I don't.  I understand everyone has their own opinion on what they think is cute, but it's nice to be tact.  You should know that there are people on here that have chi's and would be offended.

I also have a large dog (gsd/husky mix) and while at first her tail was knocking things off the table, we're training her and she's gotten very good at being careful.  it's not *that* hard to train your dog not to jump up on people, you just have to care enough to take the time and do it.

Xerxes- have you been saving that one?  Absolutely perfect!! LOL!

sorry if I offend, but that is one of the ugliest mixes I've ever seen.

HOLD ON.... did anyone else see the dog.com ad on that disgusting chug site?!?!? Please, tell me it isn't so!!!

Hey, Xerxes, do you mind if I hide that post away for future reference?  That's probably the best thing I've read in a long time.  lol
    • Gold Top Dog
Xerxes, awesome ideas, but you forgot one- a cross between a bulldog and a shih tzu.  The name would fit so beautifully, too- BULL%#!T

I have to say I'm deeply disturbed with all you so called dog lovers that have spent this entire thread bashing people and their dogs rather then recognizing this was a spammer and not paying any attention to it - this person most likely has no sister in the first place! Get over yourselves! You all just got sucked in by the OP and have given them the attention they wanted because you are all to willing to jump on the bandwagon and your soap box's and preach about 'designer' dogs, their health, their cost and that there are dogs in a shelter's that could be saved. Let me ask you, why didn't you get your GSD, Salukis, golden retrievers, dobies, labs, etc. from a rescue instead of a breeder if your so concerned (not directed to the people on this forum that have done exactly that - apologies and cheers to you for being a good person). Why do you feel a Golden, GSD, PUG, Doberman, etc. that cost waaaay more then $1000 and ends up with hip dysphasia, hypothyroidism, genetic eye disease, cancer, breathing problems or any of they other MANY problems dogs seem to have any better?

I have an 8 Month old Miniature Bulldog and the only reason we got her is that we simply fell in love with her cute little face and sweet nature. I joined this site in hopes I could get some helpful information on training her and what food to switch her to and after reading all your hateful comments I will be looking for a site that has people that love dogs in general and have only the concern for there well being.

This forum should have rules against people just being out right mean and providing nothing constructive - Shame on you. Find something better to do with your time.

I'm really, really sorry that you feel that way.  I don't think you'll find a group of people who love dogs more than we do, we love dogs so much that the person behind the dog comes second.

We do have concerns for dogs well-being. That's why we're concerned that people are breeding unproven, unhealthy dogs purely for profit.

If we don't post our opinions on breeding unhealthy dogs and adding to the huge pet overpopulation problem then people will never be educated to both sides of the story. *This* thread wasn#%92t particularly constructive, but I think that#%92s because most people did recognize the OP as a spammer or troll.

Whether the OP was a spammer or not, it seems every thread reguarding mixing breeds sounds very much the same. When I first came to this board (3yrs ago) after getting my pure bred puppy I questioned the hostility of the board towards doodles. I had never really thought about the dogs, other than the fact they were cute, unique and the owners I knew were extremely happy with their choice.

After listening to all the agruments against designer dogs I was swayed to their side, mainly because of the argument that the dogs were being bred by disreputable individuals resulting in poorly bred and suffering animals, all for the sake of the mighty dollar. The argument of shelter dogs being denied homes was not as compelling due to the fact that it would logically follow that no one sould buy pure breds either until all shelters were empty.

Three years later and thousand of threads later on the same topic, I find myself shifting away from the anti designer dog camp. I am convinced that the trend of mixing breeds is here to stay. So rather than ranting from the soap box about how horrible this all is, I think it's time to except the fact and put our efforts into educating and promoting the reputable breeding of designer dogs. Not all these breeders are simply money grubbing, unethical SOBs. We are more than willing to access 'pure' breeders and point people in the right direction, so why not do the same for the mix breeders.

You'll never stop it, so you might as well help improve it.

Actually there was a lot of constructive banter on this thread.  We found out that people that have chihuahua's don't consider them ugly- as stated by the OP.  We also found out that the majority of pugs on this board do not drool-as also stated by the OP.  We found out that the OP was a spammer- and we kept the thread alive to spite the OP-and had alot of fun talking about our dogs in the meanwhile.  I'd like to think we laughed a little, cried a little and learned alot.

    As sooner stated so eloquently:

I'm getting quite tired of when people think that it's O.K. to treat dogs like science experiments as well. Everyone has a dog for their own lifestyle, and just because you like yorkies and beagles (for example) it doesn't mean you need to breed the two and expect that everyone will just love them. I don't know but i just get so tired of all these new "breeds", no wonder the shelters are full!

sorry about that, i just had to get it out of my system.

    arrrrrrg, some people!

p.s. who in their right mind would call their new "breed" a chug! forgive me for my "speaking of mind" moment
