Breed guess for Martini, round 2(lots of pics)

I've posted on the same topic before but it was 2 years ago when I first got Martini, she has changed a lot since then. Plus I have better pics of her now showing her full body. I just want to see what people think so plz guess away.

This picture was taken by shelter staff where Martini was satying, she's was very skinny only 15pounds. (It's funny there was another post about Sam the pitty made by aDork, http://forum.dog.com/forums/t/80619.aspx, Sam is sitting on exactly the same chair!)

And here she is now at 27.5pounds and much happier.

    Going for a walk,

Different faces she can make, also you can see she has black spots on her tongue.

    Awww! She's a cutie patootie!!

Odd combo, but I see lab and I see dachshund!  The spots on the tongue can happen in a lot of breeds, though it's usually a fault (according to breed standard).

I'd say lab for sure and some other hound in there but what gets me is that tail.  If it wasn't for that I'd almost say full lab.  It looks like the tail could be a natural bob which can be connected to several breeds, from Aussies, cattle dogs to even Boston terriers, although  I haven't really seen a Boston with that kind of bob and most Aussies are cropped rather then natural.

What she is more then anything else is just plain out ADORABLE!

Absolutely positively has treeing feist, with some mountain cur mixed in, I'd say. Maybe Stephens x feist.

The face, the muscular build, the hound triangle ears and slightly labbish/dachshund-ish face, the right weight, the docked tail....all scream it.

Thanks for "adorable" comments everyone. She just looks like a plain black dog, no beagle cuteness here, infact we meet people who are actually scared of her, saying that she looks like a doberman mix, lol.  But despite her plain or scary appearance she makes up for it with her silliness and affection.

Xebby, her tail is not natural, it's docked, I can even see the scar on the tip of the tail and also on her front paws where her dew claws should be.

Whtsthfrequency, you make a good point but the problem is that we live way up north in MN not down South where curs or feists are bred. Here in MN they don't hunt squirrels or hunt with feists, I've actually never met a feist type dog before anywhere in dog parks or in shelters here in this area at all. She was an owner surrender, the shelter staff told me that her owner tried to get rid of her and that his neighborhs stepped in and took her to the shelter, otherwise he was thinking of shooting her. She looked like malnorished mostly inside kept dog under a year old. To me she's seem to be a Black Lab and some kind of terrier mix, it seem like more likely possibility since we have so many Black Lab and Black Lab mixes around here.  But it would be funny if she was a feist type because she sure has the attitude and the energy to be a feist.

I vote for lab/minpin.  She has a lot of features of my oversize minpin.

While looking at those pictures, the one thought that kept coming to mind was Doberman mix.... Possibly with lab....?  The shape of the muzzle and ears with the fine bone features are all reminiscent of a Dobe, plus the slender legs.   She's a cute dog whatever her mix is!Smile

I'm still sticking with my guess of German pinscher.  Wink

But I could also see min pin as being much more likely.  Just don't know what else would be in there...  I don't really see lab at all.  She's definitely a cutie!  I'd bet she's probably quite a few different breeds rolled into one.  Smile

Don't know what she is but she looks like she's in great shape. Such a difference from the first picture

The black coat an orange eyes seem to be definatly a Lab thing and the short, sleek coat seems to be like already mentioned a Doby or Boston Terrier. Shes a beautiful girl!
    • Gold Top Dog

I thought min pin mix when I first saw her.

    • Gold Top Dog

Lab mix is what I see.  My SIL Lab mix is short and stocky too.  She' a cutie!

I don't think she looks like a Lab to me...just because she's black w/ brown eyes and a short coat doesn't = lab to me, but that's my opinion...I used to be a member on a Labrador board (left because I hated the way they bashed another member and mods did nothing...it was pretty bad) and there was a girl w/ 2 pups that looks like purebred labs, 1 yellow and 1 black. They grew up to be about the size of Martini...actually they looked alot like her except w/ a long tail...she had the dog DNA test done and they were 1/2 Whippet 1/2 Beagle! They just looked like small labs! She's a cutie though!

Thanks guys for all your replies!  All I know is that she's high energy and high prey drive with a docked tail, that has to come from a terrier of some sort and the other half has to be a larger breed to make up for her size. People that see her in person say either that she's a lab pup or a dobe mix but these are not dog people though. I think I will do that DNA test just to see what new breeds they can come up with for my patootie, lol.

    I think she is a dachshund x.
