    Does anyone know for sure if this is true or not? The Rottweiler is a centeries-old breed. The Doberman is a more recent breed. The Doberman was "created" by mixing a Rottweiler (for protection) a Spanish hunting dog (for agility) and a Greyhound (for speed). I know the Doberman has Rottweiler and Greyhound because you can see it, but what kind of hunting dog was used?

    The link above has some information.  The exact breeding records are not available to my knowledge.  There is some variability in the stories.  I have heard any number of possible breed contributors.  There is likely more extensive informtion in some of the breed books (specializing in Dobes) that may give you more information.

    I know Herr Dobermann also used the Weimeraner and Mini Pinscher in his efforts to create the breed. You sure can see both of these breeds in the Dobe.

    I dont believe the min pin was used.  The black and tan terrier or a manchester terrier, but not a min pin.

    I believe that this is quite a speculative topic because of the varying stories you hear and read of those that make up the Doberman.This site has a pretty good summary of what breeds were contributing factors to the Doberman of today.
