    Beagle AND ???

I recently adopted a beagle mix I'd been petsitting for 8+ mos.  She is now 14 mos. & 30 lbs. of undivided affection.  [;)]

I'd be tempted to say australian shepherd? I'm not expert though!

    She's gorgeous, anyway! [:)]

She does look like she could be part Aussie...or maybe Catahoula Leopard Dog?  She's gorgeous either way [:)]

    She is beautiful!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. She's a sweetie & I enjoy photographing her & making new card designs, etc.  She's a star!

Seriously, I had thought Aussie, but after looking at photos of Catahoula Leopard Dogs, I'm tend to think that may be the case. I discovered one who seems to be wearing Chloe's coat  [:D]

Chloe's eyes are brown with gray & blue, depending on the angle you view her. Whatever she is, I feel blessed to have adopted a shelter dog.

Cute little dog.  Depending on where you live, she might also have Dunker in her.  It is a small scenthound that originated in Norway.  They are about 45 pounds and if crossed with beagle, may result in a dog about your mix's size.

Although she has the blue merle coloring, I'm not thinking Aussie because of the coat length being so short.  Longer coat is a dominant characteristic, I believe, so if that's the case, a dog would have only a one in four chance to have a short coat if the parents had long coat and short coat.
So, based on that, Catahoula/Beagle would be my guess.

"Rough" coat is recessive to the smooth hound-type coat (ie, smooth always expresses over rough if present).  So you could breed an Aussie to a hound and get either smooths or roughs, if the hound carried a rough gene from way back when - but all the pups, whether smooth or rough  themselves, would carry a rough gene passed on from the rough coated parent.

Wiry coat (terrier-faced or bearded) is in turn expressed over both smooth and rough.  Border collies carry all three genes but the "bearded" variety is so rare that many don't even realize it exists.

I agree, however, that Catahoula is more likely.
