Hmm, thought I replied, guess I hit the wrong button!  [:D]  Anyway, what a great looking dog!  I love the expression on his face.  He looks so loving and intelligent.  As for what he's mixed with, it could be Border Collie (I've seen some with coats that short), but something in that first picture had me thinking Australian Shepherd.

He looks like maybe a lab/shepherd mix.  There's got to be something brindle in the ancesty too.  Maybe Boxer?

I don't really see Lab - I think people say Lab to any dog with, I don't know, flop ears and a tail! [:D] Looks like GSD and something with the brindle coat... could it be Greyhound or Whippet???

He's got a bit of a Lab head.  Check the last picture.  They've both got really similar heads.  His ears are a bit short, almost like a Boxer.  I can't see any Greyhound.  He's got too much of a stop and too thick of a head.

Wow, your dog looks exactly like ours - we have no idea what ours is either.  I did find a picture of a brindle mastiff that looks pretty similar coloring-wise, but she's not nearly as big as a mastiff (she's up to 80 lbs at 1 year).  I think she has quite a bit of some kind of scent-hound in her too.  But mostly we're stumped.

Here's a picture of her as a puppy (hopefully this works - this is my first post).

When trying to decide what breed a dog is, don't go just by coloring, it is a large part, but there is so much variation within breeds with similar colors.  Both a Greyhound and a Mastiff can be brindle.  German Shepherds and Beagles are both saddled.  Labs and Cane Corsos can be black.  She's cute as anything though!

his look is very similar to a dog i know that is a golden/aussie mix. he's very handsome!

I have a dog that looks just like this. His name is Bear, and he is a brindle color. He is a husky/ grey hound mix. If I can figure out how to adda picture I will send it to you. He is fiercely loyal to me. He's quite the runner too. He can also jump a six foot fence standing....Be careful with your puppy. Mine loves to run, like there's no tomorrow.

I would say GSD and plott....my dog looks a bit like yours and she has quite a bit of plott in her --

i see GSD and some sort of hound..hes a real cutie [:D]

Yes, if you were in the Carolinas I'd say Plott for sure.  They are very nice dogs.  Might be any one of a variety of "cur" dog mixes, especially if you are anywhere in the southeast.

Color is definitely the last thing to consider when looking at a mix - border collies, for instance, carry almost every canine color genetics possible.  I wouldn't dismiss BC in this case because of the brindle, in other words, because I've seen purebred BCs that are brindle (I owned a highly extended tri myself - that is the same gene, different modifier).  I don't think there is BC in there for other reasons, though.
