    Pit pup-pics and update

    I posted about the pit mix pup I found. Here he is.
    He's been really good so far. Of course the other dogs have had to put him in his place a few times. But he seems to be adjusting pretty well. I have been crate training him, and using little peanut butter dog cookies as positive reinforcement. His biggest issue is that he is teething and chews everything. So I bought him tons of chew toys, and have been working in redirecting him when he is chewing innapropriate things.
    I took him to the vet and got him checked out the day after I found him. He had hookworms.. poor baby. But he looks much healthier now. He was 12.5 lbs, and the vet said he was much too skinny, other than the bloating. Since then we have given meds for the worms, and fed him tons of science diet for puppy large breeds. He looks much healthier, no bloating.
    I have done tons of research on pits. As well as looked at other breeds. Someone said that they thought he didnt really look like a pit, so I have looked around. My other suspicion is a lab. Although I didn't know they had brindle labs. I did find some info on them, but figure ya'll would probably be able to tell me more about that. As for training classes, he starts puppy classes on June 27th. That was the first available. And that will give him time to adjust to us.

    From the pic, he probobly has pit, just is not pure.  I'd say that he very well could be a pit/lab mix....He's ubber cute, I love the color (I'm a bit partial to brindels, incase you couldn't tell)....

    Yea! That is wonderful news! I love how you say "put in his place" because that is exactly what I say when Rory was a pup and was being introduced to bigger, older dogs with senority, ha ha! As a owner of a pit bull, I want to give you my personal thanks for helping better the breed and their reputation! Good luck and keep up with the updates!

    I agree on the part pittie. Great job taking him in and taking such good care of him.
     
    One thing you might not have run across in your studies yet, they can tend to have skin problems, and you might want to reconsider the Science Diet as it is full of grains and other additives that can cause problems. Wander over to the nutrition section and you'll quickly see some of the better foods. Most of the foods you can buy at the grocery store or large chain pet stores really aren't that great.
     
    I went through about 8 foods in a years time before I finally found one that didn't cause bald spots on my boy and pimples on his butt.
