I have both a pomeranian(Diddy) and a german shepherd(Haygl). The pom being the older, and the gsd still a pup. I have to admit Haygl is SO much smarter compared to Diddy. He was housebroken faster(2 weeks), learns commands faster, and training him has been a breeze compared to how hard I worked with our pom. When he looks at me I feel as though he KNOWS what I'm thinking. And he's adorable in that big, goofy kind of way.
On the other hand, he is more difficult in other ways. He does not adore strangers, as I guess is in character with his breed, so we're working very hard to overcome that. He is still a pup, so I can't say how he will turn out as an adult. But right now I'm not completely comfortable with him being around other people. I am 99% sure that he won't bite (always leave room for error), but being a large dog, people become easily frightened by him.
I love Haygl dearly, but Diddy still holds a special place in my heart. There's just nothing like a cute little furball falling asleep on your lap to make your heart melt(for me anyways [

I can't say right now what breed I will get in the future if given a chance. I have obtained both of these dogs from breeders, and would very much like to adopt from a shelter for my next dog (whenever that might be). Knowing that, it's probably difficult to have my mind set on a particular breed.
