Dachshund + ?

    Dachshund + ?

I'm fostering this doxie mix -- he is the absolute sweetest dog -- but I'm wondering what else he has in him.  His fur is strange, there are patches of smooth, dark hair, and other parts are longer and lighter and a different texture.  I don't know why this is and if it is just a phase he is going through or what.  He's been eating Pedigree.  Anyway, I would love to hear your guesses on his mix, and I would also appreciate any Dachshund info anyone can give me.

I think he looks a lot like he could have Chihuahua in him!  Both Doxies and Chis can have long hair so that may be where his interesting hair lengths are coming from.  His hair may get longer as he gets older (unless he's full grown already).  If not Chi then some kind of terrier perhaps, but I'd think his hair would be more wirey in that case.  He certainly is a cutie!

My guess is doxie x rat terrier. Do you know if the doxie parent could have been long haired?

Chihuahua!  The tail looks Chi, the face looks BYB Chi, and the body style looks Chi.  My guess is that he was someone's special "designer dog" Chiweenie!  Once they realized that Dachs are stubborn and hes not just an accessory, they gave him up.

I don't know anything about where he came from or his parents.  But his age estimate is around 8-9 months, so he may just be growing in his adult coat.  As far as the mix, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he had Chihuahua in him, given how popular that mix is these days.  And I have had other people say that they could see Chi in him...I just don't really see it myself -- I mean nothing really stands out to me anyway.  But it can be hard (for me at least) to tell sometimes with the BYB ones.  Anyway, he has an awesome temperment, and that is what matters.  Thanks for the guesses!

The problem with the fur is common in chocolate doxies. Especially if they are out in the sun a lot. The fur can sometimes turn almost blonde on the ends. There are a few things you can do to help this. Vitamins will help. Miracoat could help too. One thing that I have found that helps is satin balls. I add miracoat into every batch. I'll be happy to give y'all the recipe if wanted.

If this pup is doxie, i would guess chiweenie or maybe minpin X.
