Hello! I am glad to hear you want a boxer - they are awesome dogs - I have two! I also have to suggest that you just start with one. Boxer require lots of training and individual attention, I am not saying that it can't be done, but you have to really be up for two. [

Rescuing is a great idea, check to see if they have any boxer specific rescues around your area. But if you really have your heart set on a puppy, please buy one from a responsible breeder. They will have the best interest of the puppy and the breed in mind.
Make sure you know what genetic health testing should be done on the
parents. You can find that here:

Here is some more information on health testing:

Insist on seeing copies of the test results, don't fall for any breeder who wants to tell you they "health check" that means nothing. You may have to be
ut on a waiting list, but don't let that discourage you. Waiting for a
uppy from health tested parents is far better than buying one on impulse from a backyard breeder.
Your best bet for finding a wellbred boxer would be to find your local chapter of the American Boxer Club and ask for a breed referral. Make sure you do your research still though. Aside from the health testing you should be asking if the breeder is breeding for the right reasons.
Ask the Breeder how long they have been breeding Boxers and whether they belong to any Boxer or All Breed clubs.
Ask the Breeder if they show their dogs and ask them why they decided to become involved in breeding.
Some of the answers you
don't want to hear for reasons for breeding are: "to make extra money”, "because we love our boxer so much we wanted another just like him/her”, "because we just really like boxers”, or anything else along that line.
A Reputable Breeder is breeding for the best interest of the breed as a whole and improve the breed through their breeding practices by breeding healthy, well tempered, quality Boxers.
Ask the Breeder how often they breed their Boxers and at what age do they start breeding them. A female Boxer should not be bred until she is close to 2 years of age at the earliest. Two is the minimum age you can do certain health tests so run away from any breeder who has bred their bitch before that age.
Anywho...I think I've given you enough to start with, hopefully. [8|]
