    What mix is this pooch?

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what this dog might be a mix of? The pound says that she's part Queensland, but what's her other half? Any ideas?

She weighs 34 lbs. Very calm and sweet disposition.

    Thanks!

    Dutch Shepherd?

    A Dutch Shepherd:

It's funny that you suggest Dutch Shepherd because our other dog is half Queensland heeler and half dutch or belgian shepherd! Our dog is all black though, so I didn't even think of that for the dog from the pound. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think Dutch Shepherds can also be solid black.  I personally cannot tell the different between a Dutch Shepherd (the short haired variety) and a Malinois other than the color patterns.

but what are the odds of it being a dutchy? Malinios perhaps, they are getting a bit more popular, though i havent seen one yet that wasnt involved in some kind of shutzehund training(thats in my area, not sure about other places) but they dont SEEM to be a breed that is just running loose able to breed at will. but thats just my theory.
its possible she has got some kind of bulldog type in her, just looking at that slick coat. bully, shepherd and heeler. i definately see the heeler though.
i love her ears :D perfect little radars :D

Yeah, I can agree with that.  I don't really think the head and ears are right for a Mal or DS.  More heeler or even Kelpie.  Like you say, it's quite possible the coloring is from a totally different breed with that color pattern.  It's a very cool dog, regardless!!

I have found a very small number of Mals that appear to be purebred available at pounds and through rescues (I'm constantly watching them on PetFinder since they're my favorite breed), but I've never actually seen a Dutch Shepherd with my own eyes or found one for adoption other than the Midwest Dutch Shepherd Rescue.  I've only seen two Mals with my own eyes (one was a service dog in training at Target, the other was a puppy in the beginner obedience class at the shelter).  I'm a nerd and remember these things b/c these are my two favorite breeds, but right now my lifestyle and living situation is conducive to neither.

Hmmm...bulldog is a good idea. She probably has more than two breeds in her.

Now, we just have to decide if we really can bring another dog into our small home.
