Thank You once again, my friends. I'll formulate my question in a bit another way to make it clear:
I'm loking for a dog that will be:

    1) loyal and friendly to my present lab (3 y. o.)

    2) love my family members and be clever
    3) a great watch/guard dog for my family and my house (not friendly to strangers, of course)

My friends now advise me either cane corso (they say cane corso is not even dribbling, which is a certain pro and I've failed to find any contras)
or Perro De Presa Canario (aka Dogo Canrio). Haven't met either of the breeds so need Your help. [8|]
    With kindest regards,
    Anthony.

With all due respect, these are not the breeds you need, if you even have to ask the question.   Frankly, most dogs just being in the home "alarm barking".  If you have a family and need more than that, you should probably be in the witness protection program anyway. [;)]

lol i agree, those Canary dogs, and CMDs are way too intense for the average person. unless you are protecting a crack house, hiding from the mob, or working live stock... those dogs do NOT belong in a family environment.
i know some owners will disagree with me, but thats just fine. i'm just saying they are not for novice owners who live in the suburbs. Not many intruders will take on a dog the size of a lab anyway. granted people believe the world is spinning out of control and crazy people are getting crazier, but they are few and far between. My sister's great dane gives the impression that she is a big soft mushy pussy cat through the fence, but she would chew your legs off if you stepped in that girl's room at night. i know. she snarled at me when i did that. i knew this dog from a puppy but when i started to open that door all i heard was something that sounded like a monster on the other side. If i was a bad guy looking for trouble, i would have found all one hundred plus pounds of it on the other side. Most dont look at Danes as guard dogs anymore, but they still have their instincts.

Thats true.  Both collies and shelties let you know when Timmy fell down the well, a leaf blew off the tree, something is in the wrong place etc, etc, etc.  [sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif]

OMG that is sooo true!  My sheltie can flat raise the roof!

Karaoke - I understand your situation since I live in the boondocks as well.  There have been times I wished I had something more fierce looking than a chocolate lab or sheltie. The lab does pretty well...our mailman won't leave his truck if he's loose.

I do agree with the other comments about the Canarios and Corsos.  They are way too powerful for the average dog owner.  We actually know someone who breeds these dogs and they can be very dangerous if you're not careful.

Here's a different angle.  Remember size is not everything.  We are literally surrounded by Dachshunds (both in our families and with our friends).  Think what you will but I'd rather face a pack of pit bulls than be cornered by a mad weenie dog.  I won't hardly visit our next door neighbor because of their doxie that's about the size of my foot.  It's bitten me once and my husband several times.  He's a mean little son of a gun. He even pushes our Lab around and this dog is like the size of his head!  Never underestimate the power of a weenie!  Seriously!
