    are aussie's barkers?

I was just curious if aussie's were barkers? My aussie mix doesn't bark...ever! I have two shelties...so my house is bark central!  It's weird having a dog that doesn't bark..lol

The Shelties are doing the Aussies job.  The folks I know with Aussies yes they do bark but not as much as Shelties.

Yes they like to bark - but they love to whine!

ha! I was wondering if my aussie was going to grow out of that whining thing. He whines a lot! He whines at his kong when it doesn't cooperate. He whines at his tire when it won't release a treat. He whines at the cat when the cat won't play with him. He basically whines whenever he's frustrated. I thought it was just a puppy thing!

He doesn't really bark though. Other than the whining, he's as quiet as a mouse. My husky makes up for it though. She's a loud one!

haha..the huskies I've meet have been big time whiners!

We had an Aussie and all that dog ever did was bark.  I think he was just trying to hear himself!!

Oh don't get me wrong, my husky used to be a huge whiner! She never got attention for that whining though so now she just talks to me and tells me how her day is going "wowhoooo wowhooo wowhooo" Non-stop. And of course, I talk back. ;p

I know what you mean about the whining! Bandit whines the most when he's super happy and excited....which is most of the time! If he really wants to play, he'll stop and stare at you before making a little yap & going nuts. But as for a really barking, he's 7 month old & I've only heard him bark maybe twice when he was a little guy getting used to being alone. He's the quietest dog we've ever had.

I have whiners. They turn into barkers at my fiance's moms house b/c that's their doggy daycare and she doesn't require they have any manners (she works from home). Asside from annoying me it's not a big deal there. My female will bark at my male if he doesn't get in line. But defintally whiners!

My neighbor has 2 as well, they are barkers. Her younger one does it whenever he's nervious and will do it for hours if you make him unconfortable.

Kiwi is starting to bark a bit more now as he's becoming more protective of the house. He barks if someone is outside (or if he thinks someone is)..which gets my shelties going..lol. Overall, he's pretty quiet though. Not like my shelties, who will bark if someone sneezes, if the phone rings, if the microwave beeps, or if they hear a car door shut. [:D

Oh, the 3 time rule is great! Mine is more like 6...[:-]. Diego will bark if he sees someone raking leaves. [&:] I wonder what goes through their minds sometimes...lol. I feel like I'm always saying "Thank you! Quiet. Thank you. Ok. Quiet! Quieeeeeeeeeeeet."

Kiwi is more of a "woofer"...it's really low and just "woof.....woof" (my aussie/bc mix)

I though border collies didn't bark when they herded? I thought they did it with their eyes...

I think it depends on the Aussie and his prey drive.

I'd never heard barking & prey drive related before. Does more barking=more of a prey drive?  My boy rarely barks for any reason, but will chase anything that moves (leaves, flies, etc).....

    Compared to Shelties, I wouldn't call Aussie's barkers--[:D]

I had a Sheltie, and I agree, the wind will make them bark.....

My Aussies will "huff" a few times if they see something worth noting, but I wouldn't call them barkers at all.  Although my Tucker is a talker, he will Awwwroooo, to get your attention, it's really quite cute!  Krystal is more the "huffer", which will make Tucker bark a few times, but they really don't go on and on and on and on....like my Sheltie did!
