What breeds might he be?

I really don't see the catahoula other than the merle and coat type. And the coat type is why I said catahoula. I see more border collie, husky and hound though. If you are in Nova Scotia less likely of Catahoula probably. I think brookcove is on the money with the similarities to the Alaskan sled dogs. They do a lot of breeding now with different hounds. As far as dog licenses, ours didn't even have border collie as one of the breeds listed. We did have a space for other though and then we could describe the dog a bit with the color.

You guys are all truely awesome--what a wealth of information!

Let's say he is a Border Collie/Husky... what about the short coat?

I see Husky/Foxhound in there.  Not sure about the spots though.  He looks alot leggier than the sled dogs I've seen though so I'd say he probably has more hound in him than husky.

Thanks! I hadn't thought of Foxhound, but now that you mention it, I can see it too.

I see a LOT of Catahoula in there.  I've seen a few of them in person, and plenty of pictures...enough to know they have plenty of different body types, and racy is definitely one of them.  If you give him big floppy ears I'm sure plenty of people would agree with the Catahoula.  And I've seen them in weird areas where you'd never think of seeing a dog like that.  Like...in someone's truck at a gas station south of Boston [;)]

    Some pictures I just googled:

Thanks! The Catahoula is possible, and I can certainly see it in him.
