Collie people, height question!

    Collie people, height question!

Mal is 24" as of today- he'll be 8 months on 3/10. (we discovered this today when practice-measuring my friend's Dal and discovering Mal is TALLER than him- last week they were the same size!) Mal's dad Seely's not oversized. Do I need to worry? :P

I dont know much on Collies conformation wise, but your pups are all adorable! I wouldnt be too worried, maybe he is going through a growth spurt?

I wouldnt be able to compare with Lizzie, she has turned out looking like anything but a Collie. Skinny, short coat, small etc. lol

Looking at the standard I see he has 2 more inches before he gets penalized.  Since it's not a DQ I wouldn't freak just yet. I might tho...contact and grill the breeder how her line grows. With Akitas some lines the height comes right away and they just fill out after 2....other get a spurt right before 12 months etc. I'd figure there's a variance in Collie's growth pattern wise within lines as well.

As to showing if he ends up right at 26" then it matters what the trend is...bigger is better...or within height looking oversized because so many are smaller!

My Tristan at 4 yo is about 26 1/4" but I don't worry about it since he doesn't compete anyway. He's the tallest of the four collies I have.

I've been freaking out about how big my Aussie/Border Collie mix is going to get. Neither breed get particularly tall, Aussies can get to 60lbs but they are usually short and stocky.  My Tucker is not even 9 months old yet, and he can just barely lift his head and set his nose comfortably on the kitchen table, and I'm sure he's already 60lbs.

Anyways, I guess I just don't know how long dogs grow either, and does it vary from breed to breed?

Maybe at this point your guy will stop getting tall and just fill out?
