    Any collie people out there?

I have four collies and usually end up going to other herding breeds....

aery- I was thinking about getting a border collie puppy from this guy who owns this place called "Buddy's". I actually was going to name him "Eclipse". But decided that I wasn't ready at that time to get a puppy. His border collie is so cool he is like their mascot. here's the link .

Winch is a pretty dog. He has nice classic colouration. I love seeing the classic Border Collie the most, but I like the huge variety of them as well. My other favourites are the red merles.[:)]

Collies - smooth variety - here.  I've had Collies for over 35 yrs, but my current group consists of:

Malcolm - 6.5 yr male sable & white
Smidgen - 3 yr old female sable & white
Dora - 9.5 mos female tricolor
    Figment - 9.5 mos female sable-headed white

We try to do as many things as possible to keep the dogs busy, including conformation, agility, rally, obedience, herding, draftwork (currently backpacking, but working towards weightpull), therapy work, and  whatever else they decide to do.  We're looking into carting, but have to get the equipment first which can be pricey.

colliewog-wightpull? cool! how do you get into something like that? And I didn't know collies can do that.

I'm a herding dog fanatic!!  I have always loved Collies but just was never ready to take on that gorgeous lush fur coat (thus the smooth Collies, right colliwog?!).

    I have had:

Britt, Sheltie, sadly passed away at almost 15 years old:

Tipper, Border Collie mix, sadly passed away at age 12:

And the two yahoos below we got after my beloveds above went to the rainbow bridge, Tucker is a BC/Aussie mix and Krystal is an Aussie mixed with something, but we don't know what!

They actually do quite well when exposed.  We haven't done any competing yet, but they are drivey and muscular, so should do well.  Collies are a very versatile breed and do quite well in many different venues.  There are quite a few that have carting titles, but the weight pull never caught on, more likely due to lack of owner interest than dog ability.  Collie people don't usually want to prove that side of their dog, but I like to find things they can do well and give it a whirl.  Sadly, the closest pulls are probably 8 hrs away, so it may be awhile!

I just looked around the UKC website and some of the husky websites to get info on training, etc.  A Google search for "weight pull" will give you a lot of hits ....

I may try to work that in next year.  My dad lives in Winnsboro and I'm supposed to make a road trip .... [;)]
