HAPPY UPDATE!

    HAPPY UPDATE!

There is a big, beautiful dog at our shelter that has been there for several months and I'm trying to get him a rescue. He's a good dog, but he doesn't like other dogs, and it seems most people that want a larger dog already have another dog. He's listed as a border collie/mastiff mix, but I wanted to see what you all think. His name is Cooper, and here's a picture of him. He's probably around  80 pounds and as tall as a lab or shepherd, maybe a little bigger.

I am pleased to announce that after SEVEN long months in the shelter, Cooper went home with his new family tonight!!!! I picked him up from the vet where he'd gotten spayed and took his wiggly, happy bottom straight to the shelter where they were anxiously awaiting his arrival! Just wanted to share a happy ending!

    Pointer/Lab  or Pointer/AmStaff? Cute dog!

How old is he? 80lbs and done or 80lbs and still growing?
I definitely seem Pit or a similar breed, with Lab...or if he is still a pup...something bigger like a  Dane.

More pics...from the side and some of his tail carriage might help more...

He is big but his feet and legs look quite dainty...throwing me off...a pic from a lower perspective would help I think.

You know, when I first saw the pic without reading the description I thought he looked like a black and white Beagle mix!  But seeing as he's 80 lbs...course not [;)]  The shape of the head/body is pretty Labby, but those eyes just don't look all that Lab-like.  It's possible he may have Pit in him, but I could see him being something else too...he doesn't really have any features that are really slap-in-the-face obvious Pit.  I would just call him a Lab X for now...more pics would definitely help.

His head kinda reminds me of a Swissie, really...

Lab/BC, maybe?  Some personality traits might help narrow it down.  Can you tell us more about the dog?

That's exactly what I thought, too.  I see Lab, too.  Not because he's black, but there's something about his expression.   Lab/Greater Swiss Mtn Dog would be my guess.

That's the only picture I have access too, I believe there's another shot on his Petfinder page, which is:

In person, at least, he doesn't look pittie at all, I really don't think that's it. I was thinking maybe Great Dane and lab. Sounds like he's too mixed to try a breed rescue, which is what I was going for. Temperment wise, he's a good guy, but doesn't seem to like other dogs, which is why he's having a hard time getting adopted. He doesn't bark that much, comes right up to be scratched, walks well on leash and knows sit and shake. I really like him and would take him in a heartbeat, except for the fact we've got the two already.

I was thinking definately Lab crossed with maybe.....pit, or some sort of bull type puppy [:)]

I think that's a good estimation, and I learned the Swissie is in the Mastiff group, so the original description wasn't too far off! Thanks!
