    spotted tongue

Do GSD's or S. Huskies have spotted tongues?  We were told that's what Miya is but I never heard of either having that and she has black spots all over her tongue.

I would think any dog could have spots on their tongue.

    This might help:

Thats very interesting because I have always been told that Sara is chow because of her spotted tongue. I sometimes thing she may have collie in her.

I think it's a myth about the chow thing. I know our purebred akita, Meeko, had a spotted tongue... I think our malamute, Kimo, did as well... though I can't remember it all that well.

I always heard that dogs with spotted tongues are smart. Fact or fiction, I dunno. Plus I've always heard that spotted tongues are a trait of the Chow. Again not sure if that's fact or fiction. Maybe this is one of those great mysteries of life.[8|]

thanks.  someone at the dog park said that she 'must' have part chow in her because of her spotted tongue.  i really doubt that there's an ounce of chow in her, but i didn't know if it was characteristic or certain breeds.  i'm glad to know it's just extra pigment.  i actually love the spots on her tongue.  she's got a lot of them and it's soooo cute.  just adds to her quirkiness, and trust me, she's quirky.
    thanks for the responses.

any dog, regardless of breed, can have tongue spots. It's just pigment.

Here's something I've been wondering about for a while. Do chow mixes ALWAYS have spotted or black tongues? I think my dog is part chow, and I've been calling her that for 7 years, but she has a perfectly solid pink tongue. Doesn't really mean much, or does it?
