    chi and...?

I'll admit it...my chihuahua isn't 100% pure chihuahua.  He is 1/8th of something else, a md. size dog.  I really can't remember the breed.  They say that's where he got his height (he's a bit bigger than most chihuahuas, but not huge), and his curly tail.

Any ideas as to what the other breed is?  If not, it's not a big deal, I'm just curious.

I have seen some puppy mill Chis who had curled tails, so it may be possible that he's all Chi.  Whatever he is, he's CUTE and (I suspect) quite the love bug!

He does seem to be a little wider at the chest then most chi, I just can't think of what right now would fit that.  1/8 is shuch a small amount of something else that he looks like he's almost full chi.  Wish I had a better guess but he shure is a cuttie.

(nothing to do with this but YIPPY this is my 1000th post! wow I had no idea I posted so much!)

He reminds me of the rat terrier I used to have, could that be it? He sure is adorable! Can I have him? lol

oh no, you can definitely NOT have him, he's my pride and joy!  he's seriously the best dog ever.  yesterday was the only time he's gotten in trouble in the past year.  and it was only bc this female just got fixed last week and was at the park and he just went nuts, trying to crawl under the fence to get to her, being more aggressive with miya, barking and growling at the other dogs because he wanted his girl!  he drove me crazy.  but he's the sweetest dog in the world.

Pug?? Kind of wild guess but the wide chest and curly tail... I dunno...
    • Gold Top Dog
no, i know it's not a pug.  i wanna say fiest sounds like it could be what they said, but i don't see that, but then again i don't really know what fiest's look like.

I don't have much experience with feists, but your pup doesn't really look like one from what I've seen.  He looks exactly like the puppy mill chi's the humane society rescued a month or two ago.  Perhaps he has some Rat Terrier in him?  I dunno.  Unless you're in the South, it's incredibly unlikely that you've got a feist mix.  I usually don't like Chihuahuas, but yours is pretty cute.

i live in north carolina if you consider that the south.

i never liked chihuahuas until we got shane.  he was the cutest puppy:

The feist is a dog closely related to the Rat Terrier, used as a ratter in the rural South, ranging 10-18" at the shoulder.

He really just looks like a poor breeding of a chihuahua to me.  I see so many that look very similar.  He's cute no matter what!

what does 'poor breeding' mean exactly?  people have said that about miya, and now shane.  i just don't know exactly what that means.

It means the person who bred them was not keeping to the standard set down by AKC or UKC.  Sometimes it's someone who decides to breed their house pet without really looking into their dog's history or the stud's history.  They'll often get dogs that do not look like Chihuahuas.  Other times, it's a large scale breeding operation, such as a puppy mill, that breeds dogs that do not fit the standard.  After a few generations of that, you'll start to get huge Chi's with half-floppy ears, and other things that are not standard.

Maybe he's 100% Chihuahua.  But if you insist that he is not purebred, could the other part be Shih-tzu?  I think they have curly tails.
