    Does anyone have any experience with this breed?

    I have a dog that was rescued from about 12 hours into Mexico.  It has been suggested that she's a coated ;Peruvian Inca Orchid.  One PIO breeder in France thinks she might be, but she doesn't match the French breed standard.

    Never heard of the breed, either, but I agree- you're dog is a looker!

    She's gorgeous! As a big time fan of hairless dogs, I have  heard of, and looked at PIOs. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with the breed to know one when I see it:) I'd know it was a primitive hairless dog, but that's about as far as I'd get.

    Your dog is quite a looker! But she looks like she has very short hair. I thought that PIOs had none, execpt for some on their heads.

    Natali, her hair is very short and very soft.  The PIO is a hairless breed, but about 1 out of 4 are born with hair (coated).  Those are often destroyed at birth to maintain the "purity" of the breed.  We think she and her brother were put out on the street instead of destroyed, were in the vicinity of another litter that was rescued, and just got "scooped up" in the rescue.

    Some of those do look like your girl, particularly the one lying down in the last picture.  I think she very well could be, especially if she's from an area where they aren't that uncommon.

    Thanks for the link, Mikaela.  The photos of the ones running on the lure coursing page look a lot like her running, too.  [:)]
