    Paw Size

Ok is it myth type of thing or does a puppies paw size predict the size it might be as an adult?  Smaller size paw smaller/medium sized dog..........big puppy paws big dog?
    Just wondered.........lol
I know with purebreeds you can tell pretty much for sure what size he/she will be but with the mixed your always guessing.  Fun fun.[:D] So just wondered how much of the paw size thing is true.

I think its a sometimes thing. If you have a dog that will be a slim dog full grown its hard to tell because the paws are always slim/small. Lizzie will be a big girl (not huge) when she is full grown but her paws are tiny.

Now with huskier dogs you can tell because the paws will be huge compared to the pups bodies. In the Breeding and Pregnancy section you can look at a post I started called 'Where are the pups?!?' gr8danzgirl has a litter of Dane pups and you can see those gigantic paws right away!

Remember that certain dogs have larger paws dependent upon what they were bred to do.  A rough collie is a fairly large dog, at least as tall as most German Shepherds, but the forelegs and paws are much more delicate if you stood side by side with a shepherd.  The paw size thing might be a predictor within a given breed, but I am not sure that it will go across breeds or extend to mixed breeds who might have the bone structure of one parent and the musculature of the other.

Hi, At the obedience training center where I take my dogs, one of the trainers said that it was a myth. However, she was one of those people who ALWAYS acted like she knew it all about any subject. I am not sure if it is a myth or not but personally it makes sense to me that for a bigger dog they would need bigger feet to support themselves, such as in humans usually taller people have bigger feet.

My corgi had HUGE paws when I got him at 12 weeks old... but he's not going to get bigger than 30 lbs lol...

For sure, it has to be a sometimes thing.  I had a little lab/cocker mix who topped out at 30/35 lbs. but his paws were absolutely huge.  Everyone who saw him said that by the size of his feet he was going to be an enormous dog, but he stayed pretty much the size of a small cocker.

Some Border collies have frying-pan paws and make their new owners panic at around ten weeks old. Then they grow into 35 pound adults with big giant round feet. Maggie had such huge feet my vet at the time said she was going to weigh 75 pounds. We went and got a gigantic crate (48 inches by 30!), and then she never grew into it. She weighs around 32 pounds.

Jen's got huge feet for her size:
