What's in my dog's mix?

    What's in my dog's mix?

She came to live here over a year ago, but she's a rescue so I don't know anything about her background. She weighs twenty pounds and carries most of her weight in her chest - she can easily jump or climb a fence. Her coat is a little wiry and her ears are a bit large for her face. Her tail has a slight plume and curls over her back and down to the side. She's very bright and eager to please - she trains very easily. Her toys of choice are furry and squeaky and she spends most of her yard time digging for chipmunks. She's an aggressive chewer. She's very energetic and active when we're out and about, but has an off switch so is just as happy to curl up and nap when her family's quiet or when she's alone in the house. If anyone is up though, she needs to be right in the middle of it - she wants to be with her people as much as possible. She's not people aggressive, but is very protective of her house and territory and is a bit of a barker. She likes a good game of chase with the big dogs at the dog park, and mostly ignores the smaller ones, but we occasionally have to leave early because of aggressive posturing with dogs her own size. She has grade one luxating patellas, which the vet said isn't uncommon in terriers. The ears make me think maybe rattie, and the off switch makes me think maybe not JR, but the tail has me stumped. I'd guess some sort of terrier mix and wouldn't rule out a JRT mix.  JRT's do have an off switch.  My JRT is perfectly happy to lounge around when nothing is going on.  Your girl is adorable. :)

Humm... her face is a little wider then most terriers a ear placement is higher but the coat is more terrier and then that tail? Maybe, just maybe a Shiba Inu/JR mix?  I'm sure you will get a lot of other wild guesses.

How's this for a wild guess?  I think she might have some American Eskimo Dog in her.  They're smart, small, and spitz type.  Picture some of these with a shorter coat and black patches.

Cricket's DNA results are in and I'm very impressed with your guesses:) She's a first generation American Eskimo/JRT mix. You forum guys are good!

As the owner of a LAZY JRT, yes they do have an off switch. LOL Anyone who sees Sandy run in agility assume she's nuts, but people who see her day to day assume she doesn't move. Hehehehe
