DO YOU REALLY LOVE YOURE ANIMALS?????????AND IF YOU DO

Licensing has also become a means of profiling in many towns..they have your dogs breed, or how many pets you have, and when they pass some BS law they know RIGHT where to find you to take your animals from you. No thanks. I pick and choose what info the City has on my dogs...

Same here.  My dogs are all vacc'd, microchipped, speutered, etc. but I don't license them with the City.

Mine are all current on rabies, and licensed with my county. With my line of work - I cannot feel comfortable telling people they need to license, and me not have mine done. Feels - hypocritical to me. I have no problem with my county agency- and I know them quite well. I'm in no 'numbers' violation - as there is none for my city (which is good!).

But - like I said before - licensing laws a vastly different even from county to county.

guys and dolls, please dont take this thread personal, ive seen terrible things that (some) owners do and dont do.its just a thread lets elaborate and keep it going,it will maybe save an animals life out there with so many more michael vicks out there.i believe strongly if you do good towards animals youll be rewarded.

I used to license, but now I do not because I disagree with vaccine protocol here and charging double for intact pets.  I stick to the numbers rule (3 and 3).  Otherwise, all my animals are up to date according to MY vaccine protocol, and all are microchipped.  Nikon also has a tattoo, and the dogs all wear collars with ID name plates.

I understand where you are coming from Muttmutt. Where some may argue you are preaching to the choir or that everyone on this board goes above and beyond when it comes to their pets, I would just point out that only a tiny number of the members here actively post and many more read this board and never register. There are many, many pet owners out there who never vet their animals and I'm sure some of them lurk here.

Is english your second language?  I can barely understand what you are typing...

I think that the point that everyone is making is that you should have read a little before posting.  You came in, as a newbie, and posted something that could be interpreted as an insult to the entire membership.  I am sure that you can see why everyone would take that personally.

im sorry i mean no disrespect, just that ive seen people let their animals die,the excuse was always money.maybe just maybe ill save an animals life out there and if this thread hits gut at least try and save youre animals life try try,i dont want to get beat up over this.most people are responsible animal owners just that persentage that isnt thats why i started this thread.

I didn't think you were disrespectful and I didn't take it personally.  My posts were just expounding on what I think makes a responsible pet owner. I meant no disrespect to you.  Basic Vet care and safe housing are the basics but unfortunately many people don't even provide that in my city.  But I'm pretty sure those people never visit sites like this but if your message only reaches one person, it's worth saying. :)

now thats an insult, relax im here to make friends not enemies.

Here you have to have their rabies shot when it's called for and every time that occurs you have to buy a new tag that you put on their collar.

My dogs are registered with county/state but not registered in the AKC or anything like that. Lina could have been registered but since I had no plans on breeding her I didn't bother with it. Both are spayed/neutered though too.

I think I love my animals quite a lot.

but wouldn't you also have to groom them, love them, play with them, ect? just cuz we feed 'em and vaccinate 'em and all doesn't mean we love 'em.... (but I do luv my doggie ;D )

Funny you should say that about not getting shots every year.

In 2000 two weeks before we got Dudley we lost our 4 year old Schnauzer, who we loved with all our hearts.he was simply the best dog we have ever had.Back then before the law changed, shots were given yearly, and we always gave them at seperate times, except this once. The vet asked about giving him them together and I sdaid ok--bad move.About 2 hours after the shots he swelled all up and itching wildly,Gosh I remeber it like yesterday. We rushed him to the vet,and they shot him full of cortisteroids I think, anyway he seemed ok.

6 months later he was in bad shape, vomiting dark blood etc,and we rushed him to the vet again. This time not good! We had to take him to an over night emergency clinic, then transfered him to an Animal Hospital in toewn that has interenists. He was diagnose with Auto immune disease and our poor baby was fighting for his life. They kept him for 2 weeks trying to save him,and we would go for an hour a day every day to visit with him.

TI couldn't stand by and watch them try to play God,so i told our pup to just go,and the next morning we were called because he was failing. Our Schnauzer went to the rainbow Bridge, and all because of the shots given to him so often and the two given together.

I missed him so much that the vets said i needed another pup,and fast,so thats how Dudley came in to play. When we got Dudley i refused to give the shots so often or together ,and i researched this to find out they didn't need them so often.

After that the laws changed to every three years, and thats fine with me,as long as they are given on different dates.

Sorry this was so long, but I still get upset with what happened to our presious boy:(

Many of us have seen abuse and neglect.  I've spent many years working in rescue as have a number of our members.

Do I love my dogs?  Hmmmm.  I lived in a 37 foot RV for 15 months with SIX german shepherds and 3 cats.  This was in NW Michigan where it's colder than a well diggers rear in January ALL winter.  And winter last year lasted from October and didn't fully end until well into May when we'd already left.  We lost the house we were renting, bottom line, due to pending foreclosure on the owner, couldn't find anything affordable that would allow us to keep our animals.  When an animal comes into my home, we make a lifetime commitment to that animal.  So, yeah, it was cramped, it was furry, it was less than ideal, but I suspect that should show my level of commitment to my dogs, and my love for them.

I'm not alone.  The vast majority of our members are every bit as committed as I am.

Sorry folks.....WAY off topic here.  But, 2SpoiledChis:  I love your avatar!  So CUTE!

Closer to topic:  Me thinks the OP hasn't spent a lot of time reading in our community before posting.  No offense intended....just an observation.   Amanda, you and are thinking along the same lines here.

Welcome to the board OP....I hope you can learn and contribute along with the rest of us.  This is a great community and we all REALLY LOVE our animals.  Rest assured.
