POLL: Let's Talk Numbers!

While we have Pirate, we'll have just him - he's SO special needs and time-consuming that I don't think it would be fair to the other dog to be second fiddle. One day in the future when I have baskillions of dollars I may have two dogs, but Pirate is very much an only child.

I don't think I can live with less than two anymore!

I think a pair will be my max, too.  Having lived in households with two other dogs beyond my own, that three-dog level changes a lot of stuff.  Two dogs can't wrestle and play without the third either getting involved or shutting it down.  I could not have moved across country (twice) with more than 2 dogs, either.  Retirement may mean more dogs, different breeds (there will always be at least one Dobe)... but for now Gracie is it.  She is totally my heart dog.

While I'd LOVE to have another dog permently - it'd have to fit exactly. Casey and I are such a good match - he puts up with everything (and one) and is super tolerant of everything I bring home. Keeping another foster would mean he/she would have to be just as tolerant/eash going.

Casey has his fair share of behavioral issues - but we've worked those down to a completely managable level.

Keeping another dog would also limit my fostering, I feel. Two dogs is really what I feel comfortable handling (unless it's a small litter of 2), so 2 dogs, plus fosters is just too much for me right now. but - if it happens, it happens! and we'll just go from there =]

One dog is sooo manageable and makes out of town trips so much easier. Two dogs seem to complement each other and are pretty ideal for us. We have 3 now and it's all right. Having 4 was definitely beyond my sanity limit.

I wish we could go back to having just one for the simplicity of it, but I kind of feel that life is too short (and dogs are so wonderful) and there will always be a stray or a special circumstance or some reason that we'll have more than one dog in our lives.

Right now we have two dogs. I like two. Two is definately my limit. I can`t see ever having three or four - that`s just too many for me! It`s hard enough trying to go out of town somewhere with the two dogs. Unfortunately our friends and family aren`t that dog friendly. Sometimes I think I`d like just one dog again, but then I see how the two interact and how happy they are with each other. So....I`ll always have either one or two.

Two is the right spot for me for now, but I grew up with a "pack" of dogs.  So when possible, I'd like to be at 3-4.

My girls are very cat-like in the house, so I don't think that would be unmanageable.

I would LOVE a second dog.  We think we'll get one when we get a house and when we both having college teaching positions (which means our schedules will overlap and I won't be away from home as often, since right now I have a standard 8-5 job).

I NEVER imagined having a second dog, but it just happened and I really love it! I'd always wanted a second dog, but no one else in the household agreed. Daisy was a spur of the moment decision, she wasn't planned. I really love having two dogs and I'd love a third, but it's just not possible at this moment. Later on in life, I'd love to have three. I don't think I'd ever go beyond three, unless it was an extremely special circumstance, like a stray or an emergency placement that wasn't permanent. I'm not sure if it'd feel differently with bigger dogs, but I definately crave a big dog. But I'll just have to wait!

I have three right now, love them all tremendously.  Three is enough and I would prefer less.  As I get older with the kids etc, I find it hard with three dogs at times.  I will most likely try and keep the number of dogs to one or two but ya know, when I see one who needs a home with love -I can't help but want to give it to them.

I've got three, and I love the number I'm at. I could possibly see a fourth if the situation was appropriate and I owned my own home, however at this point in time I'm so busy with agility with two of mine and my mother's one, that I wouldn't really have time for another right now.

Anywhere from 2-4 would be my range, can't think of ever having just one though.

How I managed to end up with SIX german shepherds is a question I idly ponder now and then.  How I managed to end up with six gsds, three cats and a hubby in a 37 foot RV with no slides........but we make it work.

We have two boys and one dogder!  We couldn't handle much more right now.  I also married into a family that all have Chiwats so Lolita has other family to play with often.  Her cousin is also the same size so they can swap clothes!Smile

     Whats a Chiwat?

    We have 4 dogs....the "girls"

Wouldn't have it any other way. We occasionally have a foster Great Dane in the house too. Food doesn't get too expensive with a RAW diet!

And 1 small kitten too ;)
