    Your dog's name...

How / why did you pick out your dog's name?

    I'll start:

My daugher named Jazzy (Woodland's Jazira) after the Arabian mare on the movie "Return of the Black Stallion"

    My poodles:

    • Lacie  (Princess Lacie Lu) -  I just liked the name Lacie. It is feminine and sounded sweet like her. It was between Lacie and Lucy so we sort of used them both!  And of course, she is such a princess...Smile
    • Keisha (Woodland's Sunny Caniche) - Caniche means poodle, sunny is for her bright color and sunny personality.
    • Rex (Woodland's Royal Rex) - after the dinosaur on "Night at the Museum"!  We thought that dinosaur was so cute the way he pounced; Rex pounces like that.

Apollo came with his name. I guess I could've changed it, but it really fits him. He's a huge, black lab/mix, with a very regal attitude...he just looks like an Apollo!

I'll add in our cats names too:

Autumn- all black cat, female, adopted her in October, thought the name fit

Charlotte- calico cat, female, born without a tail, named after my favorite Sex & the City character, I adopted her minutes before she was to be put down: she was at the shelter for 6months with no applications + she scratched the ACO so she had a "dangerous" sign on her cage, I opened it, she was friendly, and we brought her home.

Neemo- grey tabby, male, also born without a tail, named after the Disney movie Finding Neemo, adopted him from a local shelter that had an "serious over-load" of cats/kittens one Spring

Dessie is "Dessine de faire l'affaire" Designed to answer the purpose of the D litter, Kennel: Tervuren de faire l'affaire

Nora is TriSorts Bounder she came with the name and two points, so I was stuck. She was named Bounder by her breeder based on her over the top behavior as a puppy.

My first dog Kane was a Rottie; he was named after bodybuilder guitarist Kane Roberts who had played guitar with Alice Cooper.

My second and current dog Harley who is a Shih Tzu came with the name and it suits his personality.

Caleb's is named after my husband's 4th great grandfather, Caleb Washburn.

Dakota: My brother picked it and I went with it.

Neiko: I was looking for something that ended in an o and one day I just came up with the name.

Lily: Her original name was Kaylee which to me is too yuppy-ish. When I got her she was sooooo happy, cheerful and yet dainty/soft at the same time that the name Lily just popped in to my head and it seemed to fit.

I'm completely lazy and complacent.  Both my dogs' names come from someone else.

Woobie was originally named Wookie by the shelter workers who fostered him.  They then decided he was too sweet for that name and morphed it into Woobie.  It fits him, I've loved it from the start so I kept it.

Indie was being called something ridiculous by his rescuer but through his microchip I learned his name was Indiana Jones.  His original owners' last name was Jones.  Calling him it was the first time I saw him perk up and respond after calling him the stupid name for days and days with no response.  It fits him too.  Always getting into trouble and taking a "bite" out of life.  Big Smile

My  cat Jackie came to us with that name and since she was 7, I couldn't very well change it.  I figured it was fate too.  Old red headed kitty named Jackie for an old red headed recluse named Jackie!  Stick out tongue

Milo, our cat, is the only one we've named since Rush, our Airedale who's passed. We were big on the TV show Lost and originally named him Sawyer, but it never seemed to fit.  I changed it to Milo for the guy from Gilmore Girls (and now Heroes) and that seemed to work.  He's mostly called Adolph nowadays because he's very evil.  Wink

And our beloved Rush was named after a video game.  Megaman had a sidekick dog named Rush.  Our family all put names in a hat and since my daughter wanted to name him Fluffy (she was 4 1/2) we stuffed the hat against her and all put in Rush.  Everyone always thought we either named him for Mr. Limbaugh or the band.  Nope.  His formal name was Terrydale HK's Megaman's Rush, thankyouverramuch!  Big Smile

Honor's named after a World of Warcraft guild that my husband and I are members of.  Her registered name is AliAK's Vereesa WIndrunner, which is another WoW character.  She's our nerdy little lovechild. Smile

    • Cleo: Short for Cleopatra...drawn from her registered name "Frayley Queen Of D' Nile"

Ares ~ named for the Greek God of War. I have always enjoyed the mythology, especially the Greek, plus when I got him I was a huge Xena fan.

Morgan ~ She s a corgi, so I wanted something kinda Celtic, but she's also a rough and tumble kind of dog, so I wanted something kinda cowgirl, and it fits for both. As an interesting note, when she gets in trouble, I call her Morrigan, which I later found out is a Celtic War Goddess.

Tyr is named for the Norse God of War. I wanted to go back to the mythologic names, and he seemed to be in need of something from Norse. After looking through books on Norse mythology, the only two names I liked were Odin and Tyr. Odin is kinda overdone, plus I could see people turning it into "Odie" which would be way too cutesie for a Mal.

Nyx ~ I had to really scour the mythology references for her name. I didn't want to go with another War deity, because she has enough spitfire in her without the name influence. I liked Nyx ~ I had been cosidering Nikki for her before finding the name, and Nyx was kinda similar to that. Nyx is the Greek Primordial Goddess of Night.

Cheyanne: I gave her the name but I dont know what made me pick it.

Lillie: I wanted a flower name and something that would go with Fire so her registered name is Malcom's Fire Lillie.

Kujo: Oh gosh. My bf thought it would be funny to name her something crazy. So the little 2lb dog got the lovely name of Kujo. I just changed the C to a K.

Jayde: I liked the name Jayde and it fit her because she so pretty.

Ginger: Had help from a neighbor naming her. It was 3 days before Christmas when I got her and we wanted something appropriate for the time I got her. She was supposed to be Gingerbread but I shortened it to Ginger. So she is Monterey's Fire Ginger.

I like to put the sire's name in my registered dogs papers and I put Fire in the them because if I ever own a kennel I want Fire to be in my kennel name.

I had my name all picked out before we got Dublin.

    1.  Obviously Dublin because he is an Irish Setter.

    2.  I only drive VW cars.  Which some refer to as Dubs.

    3.  So when my dog is in my car with me....he is a Dub in a Dub!!!

I thought it was clever and it seems like I am the only one amused by this story in my family.

Salem - We thought it was a good name for a black dog. We took a Road called Salem Ave. to get him and we decided that suited him on the way home.

Cheza - Comes from an anime series called Wolf's Rain. Cheza was the flower maiden in the series (yes we are dorks).

    I'll do cat's too!

Tugger - Rum Tum Tugger from the CATS musical

Puck - From Midsummer Night's Dream (not Wolfgang Puck like most people seem to think)

Chewy - My friend is a Star Wars freak. I don't really like Star Wars, but the name suited him.
