Baby name Poll

I don't think I would want to name my kid Brittney (even if I liked the name for obvious reasons...just turn on the TV), Hannah is pretty, but I'm sure it will become very popular once the tweens grow up...naming after Hannah Montana LOL.  I like Breanna if I were to choose any of the 4, since it's not a very common name.

Well Brittneys abound, and it does have a rather negative connation these days.  Breanna seems made up to me, and I bet she'd have to explain the name a lot.  Carlyn likewise seems made up, and like it would need explanation all the time.

I like Hannah, but it is very popular and has been for a long time.  I suggest OTHER, other being a name that's not too common and not to unusual or made up.  This site http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ should help.  I say stay out of the top 100.  Good luck, what fun!

Just an FYI:   Fleetwood Mac does a song w/ Breanna in it.  It's been around for a long time.

I don't think anybody ever really likes their name.  There are some, but the majority is probably not.  If you're looking for a name that is different, you don't hear all the time but not corny...may I suggest Janet!  It means, God's Gracious Gift!  Big Smile  I never liked my name, because you never heard it before.  I always liked my middle name...Marie.  But since I'm older I've actually met quite a few Janets and even one I used to work in the same department w/ who's name was exactly the same...Janet Marie.  Janine, is a pretty name, different from Janice.  But out of the ones you posted, I would have to say either Hannah or Breanna.

My granddaughters name is Brianna (with an i not a e) I actually never saw it spelled Breanna.  Either way it is a beautiful name.  My name is not very popular although I run across one here and there (Dawn) and when I do there middle name is always the same (Marie), seems like Dawn Marie go together, I always liked my name can't say I hated it.

When I was naming my daughter my last name was Cain - so many people suggested stupid names like "Candy" or "Sugar" but she ended up being a Kristen, it fits here perfectly.  Hannah is beautiful and I have always loved Madison too.

Flweetwood mac has a song with the name Rhianna in it. Not Brianna, although there are several Brianna, Breanna's  around here, although I still would not think of it as "common." The song in question is "Rhiannon"

throw my vote in for "Nay" on Brittney and Hannah. Brianna/Breanna is very popular right now - my BF has only four nieces (two are step-nieces) and they are Brittney, Brianna, BreAnna, and Civana (say that like Savannah).  I think that Brynne is a nice alternative to Brittney or Breanna.  I knew a girl in HS named Brynne and she was popular, very smart and well-liked, so it put a good connotation on the name.

I have an uncommon name also (Melinda), and I love having it. So I vote other. My husband also has a very rare name ( well in the US atleast). We already have our kids names picked out -

Camilo Antonio ( DH first name) - boy

Delilah Wendy ( Lilah for short, Wendy is my moms name) - Girl

Logan Xerxes ( guess we got a little unique on that one) - Boy

    • Gold Top Dog

Brianna is quite trendy and new, meaning some of the oldest are under 30.  It's a name that was made up recently, and has many spellings and variations, so I would advise against it.

    • Gold Top Dog

     Breanna-pretentious,boring

    Brittney-common,trailer trash

Hannah-Too popular at the moment, once the kid goes to school there will probably be 6 hannah's in her class.

    Carlyn-Doesnt sound like a name,sounds made up.

So my vote goes with "other"

Personally, I prefer "traditional" names as opposed to those that are more creative, but I can see the appeal of something unique.

My suggestion, no matter what name you choose, is to pick a name that is easy to spell.  My name is fairly boring (Tracy), but it's been a life-long issue dealing with incorrect spellings (Tracie, Traci, Tracey).  It's annoying to constantly proofread forms and/or correct people.  I know there are always different ways to spell a name, but it's something to consider.

I think it's impossible to choose a pet's name - I can't imagine choosing one for a child!  It's too bad we can't wait and see what a child's personality is before choosing a name - then you could really find something suitable!

    • Gold Top Dog

I like Hannah. She could go by Hannah or Anna, and there is some flexibility there for personality. My full first name is Allison, but I have gone by Alli forever and use that in business too. It just fits my personality better than Allison.

My middle name is Tierney (family name), and when I was little I hated it. Now I love it and when I got married I kept it and my maiden name as middle names because I love them both. (Although, two middle names and the DMV do not mix!)

I prefer for names to be balanced, so if it's a traditional first name then a family name or something more unique would be a good middle name, and vice versa.

The other random thing I do with names is write them out in script to see how they will look in print to be sure they flow and have balance in print too. My sister has a long first and last name and a short middle name, and that looks equally nice in print.

I had a baby girl in July, and we were looking for a name that was not commom, but something you wouldn't have to say for people to know what it was...I like Lily, but it is too common now-a-days.

     Her name is Raleigh.

    Brittany.

Because that was my old dogs' name.

    :]

Wow alot of good points in there! I think we are going to wait to meet her before we decide on "the" name. I am pretty bad when it comes to making decisions, exsp a name It's soo important!  We decided to narrow it down to 4-5 first names and come up with the middle names and then decide wich one best fits her when we meet! Thanks for all the different view's Brittney has officially been taken off the list LOL. I think that was a unamious NO.  :)  Funny how a name can be soo popular and one person can just ruin it! I keep coming across names of girls I couldn't stand, nice names but man! Keeps me from naming my daughter the same name as them!

    • Gold Top Dog

When I was in school, there was a girl in my class named Faylynn.  I have never heard it since - unique, but no one would have to ask how to say it!  So, maybe you could combine two names.  The possibilities are endless.

    Wink

More names that you don't hear so much, but probably won't get her teased at school:

Camille, Elaine, Nicole, Darcy, Lydia, Aislinn, Audra, Talise
